The Dram and Barrel which is the bar underground has a fantastic vibe and specialty drinks. Both of these are crucial for a bar, and rare in the area. Hop/scotch is upstairs---the drinks are still great but the atmosphere is a little like a bus station. I am giving this place two stars because of the fact that 4 out of 6 times we have tried to enjoy a cocktail in our favorite bar--the Dram and Barrel--it has been closed. It isn't JUST that the bar hours are (strangely) extremely limited to two nights on the weekend. That I could accept, and work with. It might even make the place more special.
The problem is that it is rarely even open during its stated business hours. There is nearly always a private event. If that works for the owners I get it. Make your money. But we are probably not coming back here because my boyfriend doesn't care for the upstairs (I don't mind it the way he does). I would come just for the great cocktails. We have given up.
If you could find a way to communicate to your customers when you are having a private event and when you are not--this is how you would keep us as happy, local customers. Post it on your website, OR even have your day time staff know when there is a private event (they don't). This way we know when to come and when not to. You have the potential for a really great whiskey bar, and to have some long time followers. We have not found a pub in town we like even half as much. But unfortunately, we aren't going to be returning for now because we usually go away...
Read moreNot many can say they have found their “bar”, if you watch any sit coms you know what I’m referring to. It is hard to find those places now a days, a simple sit down bar where you can grab a drink after work with your buddies. Well after going to hop/scotch for over 4 years. I can say I have found my bar.
Unlike the other bars around town, hop/scotch does their routine a bit different. What do I mean? They are inclusive and offer more variety in their business. open mic trivia live music open patio theme parties/events pride events LGTBQ+ inclusive thrift and drink! hangout spot!
Everyday is different but two things I can always expect walking in. One, The warm welcome and amazing customer service of Christian, Lindsay, Michael, Rachel, Abby, and Sam (and others that I forget their names sorry). Two, the incredible food choices! The pizza from the restaurant they work with is absolutely perfect.
If I had to add one note is this. is not for everybody, believe me, is not a “college bar” or a “smoke bar”. It is...
Read moreThis is my very favorite place in Bucks County! The food, the drinks and most of all, the staff are amazing. I recently witnessed an awful women who performed there, though I use the word perform VERY loosely, who did 5 songs and for her last one decided to pull out hateful and incredibly divisive content. The staff handled it impressively, making sure they stood up for every one of their patrons. They were kind and patient despite how belligerent she became. I’ll continue to visit regularly as it became clear that on top of great service and food, they have integrity in a time when it’s lacking. If you’re reading any negativity here, trust me when I say it’s this “artist” and her associates and a hate campaign. I guess she had to trade any integrity of her own to jockey for a sponsorship from the brand she was wearing. Appalling behavior from someone who was welcome to perform, just asked to leave her hate and agenda behind. Well done, Hops/Scotch for keeping your kindness and...
