This was probably the worst dining experience I have ever had, I even called the restaurant the following day just to share our experience before leaving a bad review, no one bothered to return my call. I had made reservations a week or so in advance for my MIL'S birthday dinner, I explained we had to young children, asked if that was okay, and I asked, if we could, have a nice table, considering we were celebrating a special occasion. This was all confirmed, I even called the day prior to make sure this was still the case. We get there the day of, there is no reservation. We were shoved in the corner on the patio, with no menus, no one asked for our drink order. A guy (no name) eventually came around and asked what we wanted. I asked if they had any specials(I knew they did, they had drink specials, I just wanted to confirm) he said, "yyyyea, a few." That was really helpful so we just ordered whatever. We had to ASK for menus only to receive an eye roll. I'm thinking to myself, "maybe this is just such a local spot they aren't used to people not knowing what's on the menu.(?)" Still ridiculous behavior for the service industry... We order, which takes forever, our children are already getting restless, we only have so long until our young children are tired of sitting(they're well behaved but small). The food was good, my husband ordered their fried chicken, which apparently is a staple.... It came out BLACK, I wish I had taken a picture. I had assumed it was the color because of some special seasoning...nope. (Bear in mind I worked in and managed a fry kitchen for a few years when I say this) it was 100% a re fried batch of chicken which is disgusting and unimaginable that a self respecting kitchen would serve this to a table. My husband didn't say anything to me until after we left, he didn't want to rock the boat but considering he paid for the meal, I felt so bad that he received such an inedible entree. No one checked on us, no one asked if we needed refills, we were treated and talked to like an absolute burden. We're cool people, I've worked in the service industry for years, I get it. So, this experience was so shocking to me that I just had to share it, we will never go back here and I openly discourage people from doing the same. Our meal wasn't cheap, save your hard earned dollars and go to a place that wants your business, especially if your...
Read moreThe staff were very attentive and very nice. Prices were a very high for the type of food - the sides were $5 each! I'm sorry but if I'm paying $5 for 1/2 cup of mac n cheese it better be really good mac and cheese and $5 mashed potatoes better be lined with gold or something (though there is an option for truffle mashed potatoes).... My $12 burger and my $5 mac and cheese added up to a meal i will never be getting again. It was tasty and well prepared but just the cost of such average menu items makes me cringe. -Side note: bad parking situation.... come prepared to walk. The heart of Doylestown as a whole has parking issues.
Food: C+ (it was good. Somewhat of a small menu but It was good. The mini corn dogs were tasty. My husband had the jambalaya which he said was very bland and uninteresting. (Tomato sauce with rice topped with andouille sausage and shrimp... zero spice) and I had the cheese burger which was cooked to my liking. Mac and cheese was better than average)
Beer: B+ (though its no Iron Abbey, this place has a decent selection when it comes to bottled craft brews -along with the traditional Americans on tap as well. Could use more craft on tap though since they advertise as being a good craft brew place)
Service: A+ (VERY attentive waiter who was not overly attentive. He magically appeared when we needed him like he had a sixth sense. it was very nice)
Atmosphere: C (eh....it was excessively loud thanks to the layout/architecture and the table we got was wobbly. The chair I was sitting in felt like it was about to fall apart when I scooted closer to the table. Has more than one floor which I thought was interesting.)
This place is making money like crazy, I'm happy for them, but they wont be getting our cash again. OK place to eat, we would go back for drinks and snacks if the menu wasn't so harsh on the wallet and parking was better. Our bill came to about $55+$10 tip and this is what we got: 1 strongbow (I had water ), 1 order of mini corn dogs (you get 4), jambalaya, and a burger with a side of...
Read moreYou know, it IS a business, and their goal is to make a profit. HOWEVER - there is a difference between profit and GOUGING. Our server rattled off the list of wines available by the glass. We recognized one we liked - and knew it retailed for about $10 a bottle. So - our reasonable presumption is that we would be paying about $7 a glass. After all, they do have to pay the rent and the employees. Well. The “glass” was equivalent to approximately 1/6 of a bottle. You know - the bulbous, oversized glass that is supposed to make you feel you’ve gotten and grand quantity but is only filled to an elegant 1/5 height. And when the check came we learned it cost us $12 for each glass. By our calculation they are charging a minimum of 7x the cost of the wine they serve. And, as we have a keen interest in wines in that $10-$22 price range, we suggest they dig a little deeper - there a better options than what they are offering. The restaurant is pretty, but loud - high ceilings and lots of hard surfaces. The food was - mediocre. Not “good". Not “bad”. Mine was a little cold - not as though it sat, but as though it had never really been heated properly. Service was unremarkable. It was our first visit to this restaurant, and our last. There are many other Doylestown restaurants that offer a far more unique, higher quality and fairly...
