Bubbakoo's Burritos — Restaurant in Dr. Phillips

First time trying this establishment, atmosphere was good, what I didn't care for was 2 of the 3 burritos we purchased which were the shredded beef and barbacoa. The tortillas on the 2 burritos got really soggy n snotty. Literally had to peel the tortillas off and put in a bowl. Probably would be much better just to get the bowl instead of burrito for the juicier meats. The steak n shrimp burrito wasn't as soggy, chicken taco salad was ok but chicken meat was seasoned kinda weird, not really Mexican seasoning which I was expecting, same with the other meats. I was also disappointed they did not have refried beans after being told by someone at Bubbakoos they did. Also didn't like they did not mark the 3 burritos which made us have to dig through the food to find who ordered what and that's when we found the soggy, snotty tortillas. They literally just kind of sluffed off the 2 burritos. Nothing like a soggy tortilla...ugh! Also with our order we purchased 2 beef empanadas. They were only half full of beef. Definitely not worth $7 for 2. This place reminds me of Chipotle with more options. Definitely not true authentic Mexican food by no means. I have tried to like this place 😭 I’ve given it many chances since I live nearby. The breakfast burritos are great I’ve never had any issues with that. But every time I come for lunch or dinner it’s either the food or the staff that I have an issue with. The food looks like it’s been sitting there for a while as the beans and things have a crust on top most of the time. The crispy chicken just sits in an open container under a light so that typically tastes stale. My boyfriend and I walked in and there was cockroach crawling up the front near food and I didn’t want to make a scene so I told the employee quietly but his response was “oh sorry about that… what can I get for you?” And didn’t do anything about the roach so close to the food!! I was shocked. And then this last time there were two stands of hair in my tacos. I’ve seen other reviews mentioning the same thing. And I could tell the guy checking me out saw it because he paused before giving it to me but still sent me on my way. There’s been several times our orders have been rushed by this one employee specifically, which just doesn’t make it a great environment in general. Going to be honest - the first time I came here, I was heavily disappointed. Mostly due to portioning and lack of seasoning at the time.

Today, I decided to try their (new) breakfast. I was shocked that the prices were so low right off the bat, given that I spent like $23 on 4 different things. I tried to order online at 10:47 and it wouldn’t go through so I called it in. Apparently breakfast ordering is shut off at 10:45 so that was a mistake on my part (just wish it was on the website!). Nevertheless, the guy on the phone was more than friendly and still took my order.

Not only were the prices great for breakfast, the portioning was HUGE. To compare, the breakfast taco was the size of a small burrito. I was expecting sand-dollar sized pancakes and they were actually almost as big as my head! The spam in the taco was perfect and balanced it well - I think if any more salt had been added then it would’ve been too much. Great job!!

I can’t speak for the breakfast burrito for my boyfriend since he hasn’t eaten yet - I was just so blown away that I had to come review ASAP.

I’m so glad I gave this place another chance! I hope you guys continue to give that...
