My wife and I were in Orlando visiting our granddaughter who is working at Universal Studios. She was working so we decided to check out the Hungry Crab. And we are glad we did!
Came for an early dinner, so not too busy. But traffic was - took us 45 minutes from resort 2 blocks away! Yikes! We were seated right away and brought menus and drinks. Everything looked good, and the smells wafting through the dining area were heavenly. My wife went for the Combo Boil, Crab & Shrimp, with potatoes and corn. I wanted to try the Gumbo and have the Fried Oyster Platter with Onion Rings.
While we waited, I walked around to take pictures, and maybe grab some smells closer to the kitchen. This place is decorated to the Hilt! Sea themes everywhere, even a Pirate at the door to greet you. Take it all in. I also chatted with the little Bot at the front. I believe you could send him with message or to make a trip to a specific table. But I was afraid I'd mess something up.
My Gumbo came and was not disappointing. Great flavors of the Bayou and some kick. We both loved it. Then my wife's Boil came in a huge plastic balloon. When she opened it, the flavors just burst out. She loved it. My Oysters were lightly breaded, crispy but still juicy inside and my Rings were great, real onions!
Great food, great service, quiet enough to talk. Will be backing to see Granddaughter again and take her here - after 7:00...
Read moreWent here with friends last Saturday when another restaurant had over a 5 hour wait. Was seated immediately by a friendly host and given a menu. I went with the half pound of head off shrimp and half pound of sausage. It came with corn on the cob and potatoes. I ordered mine extra hot as I wanted it spicy. It came pretty quickly and was piping hot in a plastic bag. The shrimp was pretty good, but it was a bit difficult to peel it, especially with the plastic gloves that were included to protect your hands from the sauce. The sauce had a perfect amount of heat where I was sweating, but not crying my eyes out. However, the sausage had an extra kick of spiciness, which did have me shed a tear or two. I also enjoyed the corn and potatoes and made sure I doused them in that delicious sauce.
The service was friendly and helpful, but nothing extraordinary. I was very happy that our server recommended extra spicy for the heat, cause anything less would have been too mild for me. The place was mostly empty, so I could hear mostly rap, rock, and country music in the background, which I didn't really care for. The atmosphere was casual nautical themed, as with most seafood boil restaurants.
The hungry crab indeed satisfied my appetite for some good boiled seafood. And it was less than 20 dollars for my meal. This is a pretty good restaurant for the price, especially being in the lake Buena Vista...
Read moreI am from Louisiana and i was expecting some really good seafood here based off these reviews. I’m gonna start off with the hospitality. We got seated fast which was great, but then our server, Aliza, was in such a hurry. And then she was trying to make us buy the most expensive combos on the menu. We knew what we wanted but she was being persistent on what to get even if it meant it was “cheaper” (spoiler alert: the combos we got was cheaper than what she recommended). Then the moment our food got to our table, she just ghosted on us. Did not check up on us for a solid 30 minutes until i had to ask for her when she was running beside us. She was very social with other tables that had food, but not us. Making me and the friend feel excluded. Then we asked for the manager. I appreciate the manager for helping us out with a discount. But this hospitality was something I don’t want to experience when I’m visiting. Now the food. The sauce was super watery, barely any seasoning in the bottom of the bag. We had to ask for extra sauce in a side. And the sauce in the cup tasted better than the sauce in the bag. The shrimp was over cooked, the snow crab was very hard to open into, the mussels were over done as well, the corn was hard, and the crawfish didn’t hold seasoning. So this was my...
