Mr. Charlie's Chicken Fingers is THE Utah original chicken tender spot. You may say, "A chicken tender restaurant founded in Utah? No way it can be good!" The secret is the founder, Mr. Bartley Melton, is from the South, giving the necessary credibility to his chicken establishment.
I enjoy the fried tender plates (the four finger combo is plenty), and I especially enjoy the classic po' boy. I've also liked the 3 tenders and 4 wings combo. A pleasant surprise was the Chicken & Waffle. While not my favorite on the menu, it's a worthy selection with the waffle being nice and well ironed. The mango habanero monthly sauce tasted great on the wings, but don't get the garlic parmesan -- with all due respect, that sauce is inedible, and not to be misunderstood, I mean it's truly horrible. I'm not a big fan of the grilled tenders, but my healthy friends say they're fantastic. The Charlie sauce, honey mustard, and tiger sauce are solid choices, and I like to experiment with their monthly options. The fries are good, and the Texas toast and cole slaw are okay. I ordered the Reese's cheesecake cup, and it's not bad for the price, but I also won't order it again. My favorite part about Charlie's is they carry red creme soda, an S-tier drink.
The service has always been friendly, fast, and accurate. This extends to my two separate party orders, both of which were the 100 fingers and included sauces. The dining room is tighter and tables can fill up around peak times. It gets pretty loud, and I don't recommend holding a business meeting here (learned by personal experience). With that said, it's a great place to eat with friends and family, and I love the Utah-centric memorabilia, like pictures of the old Utah Jazz teams or pins from the 2002 Olympics. Also, they've got TVs tuned to sports, which is a great addition. My favorite chicken tender restaurant remains Raising Cane's, but Mr. Charlie's is a worthy alternative. I will continue to be a...
Read moreThis was my very first time trying Mr. Charlie’s Chicken Fingers and I loved it! I got the Loaded Nashville Fries but substituted the Nashville sauce for Parmesan Garlic sauce.
On my way walking in, a poster for Loaded Nashville Fries caught my eye and was going to order that but decided to customize my order a bit when I saw a sign on the counter near the register which said their sauce of the month is garlic parmesan. The aforementioned sauce is my go-to at other chicken places like Buffalo Wild Wings (B-Dubs) and Trolley Wing Company (TWC).
I’m a big fan of comfort food (meat, starches, savory/salty, gravies, sauces… all the sauces!!!) and this hit the spot perfectly. The base layer was perfectly cooked crinkle-cut fries drizzles with sauce, then a good amount of boneless breaded chicken bites tossed in sauce, and topped with coleslaw. I thought it was a good amount of food for $8.99 and I easily could have had leftovers if I didn’t pig out on it and eat the whole thing. It was very flavorful, the chicken, as expected, was fantastic. I’ll have a hard time ordering something different when I come back, but I do want to try out just the chicken strips/wings on their own sometime.
Will I be back? Yes, can’t wait.
The biggest downside for this Draper location I would say is the location itself. While the signage is decent right off 123rd S, it’s difficult to get to. I imagine that’s why I haven’t been in before. A median prevents you from turning straight in when turning left driving the opposite direction. Where it’s positioned in the parking lot, you have to kind of go through the maze of Bahama Bucks or turn down an awkward side road just to access their parking lot. I hope they can overcome that obstacle in their business because I want them to...

We saw someone carting stuff into the draper location literally hit our van with their dolly. We assume the older man present being an owner of the restaurant. We have a huge white scuff on our brand new van.
We liked the chicken quite a bit but the last time we went they refused to honor a coupon. We sent our friends who live down the street with a photo of the coupon that was about to expire. We live across the valley and thought they'd be nice and allow them to use it considering the situation. The coupon was expiring so we weren't going to use it again. I hate when restaurants can't bend the rules a little. It shows me they'd rather follow rules than keep customers. Over a few bucks. Going to raising cane's from now on. We went miles out of our way for Charlie's and now we cease doing that.
We've continued to come because we liked the food so much despite our very first visit having someone damage our van. Also despite the service being abysmal.
My previous experience was hideous as well. They quoted me 15 minutes to make my order. I got there 20-25 minutes later. I literally saw 3 people order in person after I got there and receive their food before me. Me and the other guy waiting for our phone pickups were baffled. I got home and the meal was missing food.
Once a faithful customer...
