Our monthly girls lunch brought us to Water Moon. It is tucked away in an unassuming little spot next to the Draper Harmons. We opted for a booth (love this) for a little more privacy since out lunches last for several hours. We chose Water Moon because the menu offers a variety of Chinese and Japanese dishes.
The service was incredible! Our server was knowledgeable about the menu, specials, and everything else we threw at her. Best of all our glasses were always full and she let us stay as long as we needed explaining that she hadn't seen her friends and family in two years because of Covid and understood.
We ordered a bento box, and three sushi rolls. The food was beautifully prepared with care and fresh ingredients.
Bento Box Review The hot and sour soup was similar to what you will find at most places, but this one was a bit more peppery, which I enjoyed. Although it didn't beat my favorite place, it became my second favorite. I chose the Asian salad dressing thinking it would be the classic rice vinegar and sugar but this was so much more. It was thicker, a little spicy (think horseradish not hot peppers), and gingery. I loved the dressing! I could have just order salad with this dressing and been happy. The Gyoza, General Tso's chicken, and fried rice were typical of what you would find elsewhere which is nice for people who have a hard time trying new foods or kids looking for something familiar.
Sushi Roll Review The sushi here was one of the best places I've been to where sushi is not the main item offered. It is fresh, beautiful, and very tasty. If your friends are used to grocery store sushi, they will be blown away with how good sushi really is without being intimidated by trying new kinds.
Cleanliness This is possibly one of the cleanest restaurants I've been to lately. In our 4+ hour luncheon I saw them cleaning menus, floors, and chairs (including the legs) in between rushes of customers. I deeply value that in a restaurant.
The only suggestion I would like to offer is an all you can eat...
Read moreI have been here before and really enjoyed it. Food is good but when you go to a restaurant and spend over a $100 worth of food you expect to have decent service that comes along with it. Went there tonight ordered the food, waiter took our order very quickly giving attitude on everything we asked for, received the food, he never came back to check if we would like some refills for our drinks, or if we would like anything else. 10 minutes later he drops off the check on the table and leaves by simply saying thank you not even giving a chance for us to speak. $100 of food, 10 minutes, hmmm? We pay cash and he brings us the change, as we are taking the change and gathering money to put tip, he shows up to clean table looks at the money left on the table and starts pointing and mentions that the total is over a $100 dollars. He was trying to hint to the tip is low, but we weren’t even done yet. I have news for you, tip is optional, I am a very generous tipper even if the service is bad because I understand there are times when waiters are very stressed and busy there were only 4 people in the restaurant when we were leaving. Give people sometime to gather up and don’t make any assumptions as to what your tip is before you even think about saying anything to the customer, especially when the service was horrific. I will never be going back there just because of this, there are many different and better...
Read moreI think that the food here was good, but not great. This may have more to do with how I feel about American Chinese food more than the actual quality. Our server, Jewel, was very nice and friendly. My wife ordered the General Rao's Chicken and it was very good. I ordered the House with Garlic Sauce and it was ok. The sauce wasn't particularly garlicy. In fact if I didn't know that it was garlic sauce I don't think I would have known there was garlic in it. They offer white rice, brown rice, or fried rice with the entre. My wife and I both got the fried rice which was sub-par. As a rice lover I was surprised to see the small portion of rice. I asked for more and they brought out another small bowl for $2.69. having lived in the Philippines for a while they would be horrified at the amount of rice and the charge for extra rice. Overall I am unimpressed with the quality of Chinese food I have had in Utah, but this place is as good as any. The General Tao's was good and we would order it again. As a side note there was a special for 2 on the first page, but when I did the math it would be cheaper to order everything separately than to order the special. I did feel good patronizing a local restaurant and the service...
