My party of five adults and three children visited Baithak with high expectations, particularly as we heard it was championed by Chef Vinod and a bakery chef. Unfortunately, our experience was largely disappointing, centered on significant service issues and uneven food quality. From the moment we arrived, the staff appeared confused and disorganized. There was no warm welcome or proper system for receiving customers. We were left waiting for an extended period without even a menu card, which immediately set a negative tone. Once we finally placed our order, the issues continued. Starters arrived after a surprisingly long 30-minute wait, and the entrees were delayed by more than 25 minutes after that. This extended waiting time was not unique to our table; we observed customers at other tables frequently going back and forth, trying to get the attention of staff to inquire about their food. The staff, while present, seemed to be standing around without clear direction or proactive communication with diners. Even basic hospitality and attentiveness were noticeably absent. Regarding the food, the starters were indeed good and offered a promising start. However, the entrees were unfortunately a letdown and did not meet expectations--they were not particularly great, especially after such a long wait. The drinks, particularly the margarita, were also subpar; it felt as though the staff lacked proper training in mixology. Considering the high cost, the overall value for money was poor. While I understand that quality comes at a price, the combination of inconsistent food quality and extremely poor service made the experience feel significantly overpriced. As a chef myself, this was a particularly disheartening visit. We truly wish the team success and hope these critical points can be addressed: Staff Training: Implement comprehensive training on hospitality, customer reception, table setup, order taking, drink preparation, and efficient table service. Operational Efficiency: Streamline kitchen and front-of-house coordination to reduce wait times for both starters and entrees. Customer Engagement: Encourage staff to be more communicative and proactive with guests, checking in regularly and anticipating needs. Consistency in Food Quality: Ensure all dishes, especially main courses, consistently meet high standards. With improvements in these key areas, Baithak has the potential to match its ambition. We hope to see positive changes...
Read moreA Taste of Awadh in the Bay Area – Finally!
It’s such a delight to see a restaurant in the Bay Area dedicated to Awadhi cuisine. My love for Lucknow, its food, and a wave of nostalgia brought me straight to this spot—and I’m glad it did.
First impressions – Seating & Ordering There’s ample seating both indoors and outdoors, and you can choose any available spot. Ordering is done either at the counter or via a QR code at your table—nothing new for the Bay Area, but effective. That said, it can feel a bit inconvenient to get up and place a second order at the counter mid-meal. Thankfully, the QR code option makes it easier.
What we ordered – A flavor-packed journey We started off with the Shami Kabab and Soy Chaap paired with Khmer naan. The soy chaap was absolutely outstanding, and the shami kabab transported me right back to my Lucknow days. The Khmer naan deserves a special mention—much lighter than regular naan, with a lovely texture that complemented the dishes beautifully.
Since we visited during lunch hours, we also tried the Choley Kulche and both Masala Chai and Irani Chai. The choley were flavorful, though the kulche weren’t quite to my liking. The Irani chai definitely stood out over the masala version—smooth and aromatic.
For the main course, we went with the Chicken Dumpukht with naan and Chicken Biryani. Both dishes lived up to the Awadhi reputation—fragrant, flavorful, and delicious without being overly spicy.
We wrapped up the meal with kheer, which was absolutely delightful. I had my eye on the Shahi Tukda, but that’s saved for the next visit!
Staff & Experience I had a lovely chat with the lady at the reception and an engaging conversation with the chef. I shared a few suggestions, which were welcomed warmly—always a great sign of a team that cares.
Final verdict This place is a gem for anyone craving authentic Awadhi flavors. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in the...
Read moreLovely place , beautiful food, it’s self service , so you order the food at the counter and sit at your table for the food to be delivered. You can also sit at your table and order food on your phone through the code thing they have on your table. We were welcomed in warmly, it’s clean and beautiful inside with chandeliers and mirrors, in the summer will be fun to sit out side. We went for lunch today, our friend mentioned it and it also showed up on my Instagram, it’s been open a month, it’s next to Cafe Tazza and in the old Berevino Italian place in Dublin which sadly shut down. I ordered a mango mojito and lychee martini for me, a chicken biryani so delicious n soft n moist , comes with a raita, and a really nice small Indian salad with cabbage leaves, cucumber, tomato , onions. I hate salads but this was so nice. I am a small eater and took half of this home. The chicken biryani comes with 3 chicken “legs” or”drumsticks”. I compare this to the Yellow Chili Danville Chicken Biryani where sometimes the chicken is dry n doesn’t come with salad, and I like this. My husband had the sheekh kebab n the shami kebab, it comes with the same refreshing small salad I mentioned above, green chutney and Khari naan I believe it’s called it’s. Fermented type of nan apparently , never had it before had it for the 1 st time here loved it, perfect with the kebabs. Total bill before tip was $79 I think, am comparing to our other Indian favorites in the Tri valley like Taj Livermore, Yellow Chili Danville, Essence Livermore, Frontier Spice Pleasanton and this is 1 place we will be coming back to (it’s expensive, but everything’s expensive these days!), we live in Pleasanton will be back here again. If you are in the Tri valley check this place out,...
