Placed a carryout order on noon on a Sunday- didn't realize the lunch prices only apply Mon- Saturday, Sunday you pay dinner prices ALL DAY. Apparently when you order a dinner you get your main dish and that is it, unlike the lunch you get a fried wonton and fried rice. So essentially your charged more money and get considerably less food. We ordered 2 "dinners" and received only one rice to share, which was very cold, almost like it went from the fridge to the to-go container. Ordered the Mongolian beef which was semi warmed but completely dry and tough, even soaking in the sauce didnt make the beef any easier to tear and chew. We also ordered an order of lo mein noodles, we received plain white noodles- the word "lo" by definition means "tossed" and generally are mixed with a sauce, veggies, and a protein, which I'm not even upset it didn't have a protein, but NO SAUCE...we get the food home and the one thing I thought came with every Chinese order was fortune cookies, there were none. So for $40 we received cold rice, white plain noodles, 2 "dinners" 1 of which I could barely swallow it was so dry and our crab meat rangoons (which were very good and hot). When I called to question the lo mein I was told I had to specifically order the lo mein noodle with sauce. When I informed the gentleman that the word lo literally means tossed so I figured it came with the sauce he informed me he just put in plain noodles because he thought that's what we meant we wanted when we said an order of lo mein noodles... Smh .... Needless to say I'll be saving my money and not going back for over priced, over cooked...
Read moreThe food is shameful. I ordered pork egg foo yung and my wife ordered cashew chicken - nothing exotic - which came with fried rice, egg drop soup and fried wontons. The egg drop soup was full of raw onions, was gelatinous, grey and overly salted. I couldn't find the eggs. When our entrees arrived, I was surprised to see that they looked identical - some kind of gray meat with vegetables in a greasy brown sauce. I thought there'd been a mistake, but underneath my pile of stuff was one egg foo yung omelette about 4 inches in diameter and obviously pre-made. My wife's dish had 6 cashews placed on top of the meat/veggie combo, so I guess that constituted "cashew chicken". Both dishes tasted like pure salt - nothing more. There was absolutely no flavor. The "fried rice" consisted of white rice (appeared to be instant) with a few peas mixed in and again, a ton of salt. The fried wonton contained no meat (probably fortunate) and tasted like old vegetable oil. The omelette had no meat or veggies - just eggs and just as flavorless, except for lots of salt. Finally, the server came to the table a few minutes after bringing our food and told us that she was leaving - that if we needed anything, we could go "up front" and talk with the hostess. After I complained, the hostess took 10% off our bill. I wouldn't eat here again even if they gave the food...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I eat here frequently. We liked the crab rangoons especially. We ate that this place probably once every two weeks for the last 6 months (sometimes more often than that). Tonight we ordered our usual. 2 orders of mandarin chicken. My boyfriend went to pick it up and brought it back. When he got through the door I started to take the food out of the bag and open it. They gave us two orders of something completely different. When he called back the girl said "You said 1 order of Mandarin chicken and 1 order of Mongolian chicken. I read it back to you" Instead of fighting with her he went to go pick up the new chicken. The manager said that it is her word against our word and made us pay for the other chicken! I am sorry, but any customer service place that I have ever worked in the customer is always right unless proved wrong. I have no idea how she got "1 order of this and 1 order of that" out of him saying "2 orders of..." We will never return to House of China. I will not give $30 every two weeks to a place who does not appreciate it's customers word. I'm sure they won't lose sleep over the loss of my business, but I would hope all of you reading this also would not like to hand money to a business like...
