Was in Dubuque, IA today picking up a JD tractor. After making my wife wait 1 hour she told me I needed to treat her to a coffee. She said she found a place on Google... Monks. What a find.

It reminded me of the old, 2-story, brick buildings found in German Village in Columbus, OH... inviting and quaint, a real "feel good" sort of place.

Inside you are surrounded by brick, a gemisch of comfortable seating and various pieces of art and bric-a-brac... an intimate setting shared with people that were both friendly and engaging. They offer a bar with a fine assortment of whiskeys and craft beers along with the regular players, various sweet treats, possibly breakfast sandwiches (as mentioned by a neighboring merchant), live music in the lower level... and first and foremost coffee.

My wife had a Chai Latte... Rich and Creamy. She loved it. I had a cappuccino... It was perfect. I don't say this lightly. It is my ongoing quest. I rarely give 5-stars for anything. I always tell friends something has to make my toes bend back and my eyes to roll into my noggin before I would doll out a "5"... But a perfect cup of cappuccino and a place so darned comfortable gets it hands...

This is one of my favorite coffee shops to go to. The atmosphere is vintage and I enjoy it greatly. The absolute only downside to this place is you need to climb stairs to get into the establishment. Also this is a bar that has alcohol via at night. It's also a place for multiple reasons. Coffee bar, regular bar, also there is a sitting area upstairs across from the coffee bar, there is a nice comfortable restroom and also there are comedians, bands that come there to play downstairs in the other bar area. Children can't come in the bar area at night. Have ID ready at night. Again best coffee bar...

Pretty awesome hangout. Had a Caramel Iced Vanilla prepared very well. Also, ordered a Chai Latte after afterwards to warm myself back up. The Small Chai Latte was actually in a bigger cup which gave me more value for my buck. Arrived around 4pm to a pretty friendly group of people very mindful of there voice tones. Music was at a great volume not overwhelming at all actually pretty soothing (some sort of soft rock). Very Clean establishment. Will definitely return. The woman working the coffee (Emily I believe her name is) was very informative with me asking a million and one questions. I am very...

An artsy little coffee place with a chill, laid back atmosphere. It resonated with my personal idea of a coffee shop very well - one where one can just chill and read a book with a mug of coffee. The decor reflects the quirky hipster tone of the place very well. Also, the coffee - handmade by the owner with great care and the taste reflected it. Recommend the latte and the caramel coffees.

Excellent atmosphere, stopped by after a long walk with kids along the Mississippi River walk. Orange soda for the kids and latte for me and a round of chess. We even spotted a working accordion there where my boys got to play it for fun. Super friendly owner and if you are a Cubs fan.... you have a place here! At night you can enjoy a nice selection of Microbrews as well!
