Ok, to start out I am in no ways a person who keeps quiet when somethings wrong, I went to culinary school so I expect a certain level of 1 cleanliness and 2 food quality. I rather pay for quality ingredients at a restaurant than low quality. My boyfriend ordered a bacon cheese burger which I could tell right away was a frozen patty which isn't always bad but it looked dry, French fries were cooked fine. My problem was my meal I opted for a hot beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. Those who don't know it's usually served open mouth with the mash potatoes and gravy on top usually a fool proof recipe. What I didn't get was it was sliced lunch meat that had been thrown into super salty gravy thrown on top of 42 slices of white bad tat was not toasted so was super mushy by the time I got it. The mashed potatoes had a chemical taste to them and the galaxy the abundance of gravy was ridiculous. It was super salty and was not smooth definitely like it was not fresh at all. I usually would have sent it back but I felt horrible for our server she even didn't want to put it in front of me you could tell by the look on her face she was embarrassed. I honestly believe this restaurant needs help. The atmosphere was great but the food left a lot to be desired I paid for the food because I injure the restaurant needs it but I basically left a full plant of food on the table which I never ever do. I honestly wish i could speak with the owner because I could come into this restaurant and turn it around. It's no wonder they put there hours down to a minimum 9 to 2. There's no money with what they are doing. People wont come back except breakfast which a lot of restaurants there's not a lot of money in breakfast. I hope the chef looks at these because I would revamp the roast beef get a round bottom roast which you can get the large ones do slow cooking process and prissy your meat yourself. I know you have to be embarrassed by today. God I wanted to ask if I could talk to you I want to help so bad. I only hope you all can figure out what to do because there's so much promise there. ...

Terrible. The food was of very poor quality. Service was good and the staff are nice but had a terrible experiential Zoro the owner. We ordered 5 dishes, 4 of which were of very poor quality. We had two tuna sandwiches (one a melt), both of which had excess oil leaking out of the tuna salad. My wife had a Rueben. The corned beef was tough and over cooked. Most of the food was overly salty and poor.

When we complained the waitress, who was extremely patient and helpful explained that the manager refused to take anything of the bill and that our food was fine. I spoke with the manager on the phone who was not interested in listening to my compliant and instead told me to ‘take my bullshit’ elsewhere. He acknowledged no fault but maintained he knew exactly what was going on despite not being in the building. We were accused of trying to get ‘a free meal’ even though we didn’t get anything to eat. He threatened to call the police and continued to yell. Awful, awful customer service. No desire to understand or acknowledge any issues we had, just accusations against us.

I would never eat here again and would strongly encourage anyone to avoid it based purely on how I was treated by Zoro. For context, the bill Was 60 dollars and I asked for a reduction, not for everything to be taken off. We had eaten some things and wanted to pair a fair price. This was obviously a grave insult to the culinary expertise of Zoro and his apparent psychic abilities to know exactly what our food looked like and tasted like with our being there in person to...

I visited Galena/Dubuque with my 12 old son and I always enjoy taking him for breakfast. After a few internet searches we decided to stop at the Sunshine Family Restaurant. The staff were very friendly and attentive but there seemed to be a dark cloud casting shadows on an otherwise sunny place. There was a stern man hovering around the middle of the restaurant. I tried to figure out his connection to the place and decided that he is probably the owner. Turns out he is. He did not smile, ever. He seemed really annoyed by everything and everyone. No matter who came in the door, he directed them here or there but he didn't really do anything constructive. He just looked extremely grumpy and annoyed with his employees who were working hard and doing their best to please customers. The food arrived in a flash, very fast and the server was exceptionally friendly. As we left I asked her if he was the owner and if he's always like that. She acknowledged that she's put up with it for as long as he's been there. (She's been there six years) She said she just got used to it. Shameful that someone in the service industry acts like that in public. I don't know his circumstances and I don't want to assume anything but this I know, doom, gloom and grumpiness should have no place at a place called the Sunshine Family Restaurant. Shame on you! Stay home and let your workers do their job. If you go, tip the employees well,...

Historic diner serving authentic American & midwestern dishes. Cash & credit cards accepted. Friendly staff & prompt service. Very much a locals kind of place, and you're apt to get stared at if you're not a local. If you're a local, the food is probably great. If you're not a local.... Stopped on a road trip. Wanted a bit of local flavor and that's definitely the flavor here. The place probably hasn't changed much in 30+ years, and the history of the place as a diner goes back around 100 years (read the back of the menu!). Menu is pretty diverse but what you get/expect may differ somewhat. My recommendation is that, if you're not a local and well-versed in Midwestern faire, opt for something basic like breakfast. Two or three eggs with sausage or bacon plus your choice of bread is a great (and safe) option. If you're a local feel free to be more daring! Staff were all pleasant and service was prompt. It get busy around lunchtime.

The service was great as was the food. There are many good choices and the price is reasonable. We spent about $40 for lunch for a family of 4 which included sandwich/burger, soup AND fries, and drinks. The only issue was that they don’t social distance very much. They have every other booth closed, but the tables in the center of the room are way too close to the open booths. Overall, I loved it and will come back next time I’m in Dubuque.
