At the time of writing this, this spot has 110 reviews and 5 stars. Unequivocally deserved. I first saw this place driving by on Peachtree Industrial BLVD (great sign, by the way!) and decided to look it up on Google!
I decided to stop in today and it was Taco Tuesday, so I decided to get 4 different tacos. The fish, lengua, and 2 quesabirria. I’m going to be a bit critical on a few of these points, but they’re not enough to denote 4 stars in any 1 area.
Before I begin with the tacos, the complimentary chips and salsa are BANGING. The salsa is soooo incredible (and I did find out that it IS house made, it honestly tastes like it is as well). Why is it hard to find a good Mexican spot with top tier salsa!?
Well, then, on to the fish taco which was wonderful. Where as other places might batter and fry the fish, the fish taco here is grilled. It was pretty spot-on (not overcooked) and the slaw that is paired with it is vibrant and refreshing. I do believe that the fish could use a touch more seasoning in the way of salt, as the overall flavor was wonderful. I will say, if you desire more salt, there are salt shakers on each table.
The lengua was incredible! I’m from the Caribbean, so cow tongue and other parts of any animal are nothing crazy. As far as places in the area that serve lengua, this is by and far the best. It was not overcooked at all, VERY tender, and had this smokiness that is almost never experienced even with the best lengua tacos I’ve had. The one area that is lacking, however, again, was salt. I didn’t add any, but it definitely needed just a touch more salt.
Saving the best for last, the quesa-birria tacos were actually perfect. There was nothing that needed to be changed at all. The flavor level was perfect (including the salt level) with the birria itself was uncsious and flavorful. It’s paired with consommé that I did have to add salt to, however. I want to be clear that the tacos on their own are phenomenal and you do not “need” to dip them in the consommé, but it is my preferred way to enjoy these tacos.
I know from this review it may seem like I’m a person that just likes salt. And the truth is that I’m not. I understand that salt levels are such a distinctively personal opinion, and it IS better that something is UNDER salted as you can always add salt but you can never take away. However, my reason for pointing out the lack of salt today is for the fact that the FLAVORS of the dishes were AWESOME. They had the acid, they had the spice, AND they had the flavor, but as I was having the fish and the lengua tacos, it was VERY apparent that amongst these shining flavors, that there was an emptiness because of the inadequate amount of salt. It didn’t need a lot, maybe 1/4 tsp more to fall into line with the rest of the flavors.
Anyway, the food was still spectacular. It is by and far the best Mexican spot I’ve visited between the Duluth, Lawrenceville, and John’s Creek areas (oh how I miss El Limonar).
Thank you for the wonderful food and service. $18 for Horchata (free refills) and 4 tacos (2 of which are their Premium tacos). How could I...
Read moreUnlike some of the reviewers, I wasn't blown away by the food. I just thought my food overall was good, perhaps very good, but not great. For me, best part of my meal was the salsa that came with chips, considering how thick and spicy it was. Most Mexican restaurants I've been tend to water down their salsa. Fajita along with rest of my dish came in hot and fresh, yet nothing really stood out.
So then why 5-stars you may ask? The customer service that I received was awesome and that was enough to put it over the top. My waitress was kind, courteous, and patient, while I was fumbling around trying to decide what to order. She was careful in explaining the menu and options, and she constantly checked to make sure my meal was satisfied. It also helps that the restaurant was spotless and an inspection score of 100 hanging on the wall didn't hurt either. They seem to have a taco special on Tuesdays, so I will be sure to...
Read moreYou have to go to Bueno's! I walked in 20 minutes till closing and was greeted kindly, respectfully and with a smile. The young gentleman at the counter patiently waited for me to make my selection for my to-go order. They have it decorated so nicely, and it is so clean. The kitchen is visible and everyone back there was working and chatting quietly. When I got home, I settled down to eat my dinner. I intended to only eat half of my Asada Burrito. However, it was so delicious I just ate the whole thing, along with my guacamole! Everything was fresh and flavorful. It is obvious they are passionate about providing quality meals. The guacamole was the best I have ever had!!! Two things I also liked: they do not automatically have a tip selected on the pay screen-they let you select it! Secondly, he did not ask me to give him a Google review. So, he got both the tip and the review....
