TL;DR: Currently one of my favorite restaurants in all of Georgia. Food is consistent and yummy.
Admittedly, I haven't tried too many dishes on their menu as I can't seem to convince myself to try something new because their spicy galbi-jjim (pork braised short rib stew - which is "A13" on their menu for $13.99) is just too craveable. This might be my favorite Korean dish, at least currently. It's savory, a little salty, a little sweet, and it's spicy. It's really just comforting. Highly recommend. It is a bit spicy, so beware if your heat tolerance is questionable.
I have tried their Grilled Mackerel (wife's favorite thing to order "B1" - $15.99) and their Cold Buckwheat Noodles ("D1" - $12.99).
The grilled mackerel is yummy. Unfortunately being as it's fish, it does contain a lot of little bones you gotta deal with while eating... But again, it's to be expected (fish).
The cold buckwheat noodle soup is tasty and very refreshing, especially on a hot day. To most people, a cold soup would sound strange, but it definitely works. Great balance of sweet, salty, umami flavors. It comes with a little vinegar and mustard condiments. Just add a little of each. Would recommend.
I have had some of their other dishes, but the ones mentioned are the most recently and frequently ordered. Haven't had any bad dishes there yet.
The bonchon is quite good as well. They of course always serve the staples like kimchi, bean sprouts, radish, etc but they also seem to include a new/different bonchon frequently which is nice.
The inside is fairly small but it's pretty cute. They did a pretty good job of making it feel like being inside a quaint restaurant in Seoul (I've been to Korea).
The service has always been good. Each table has a button you can press if you need to speak with the server or need something. With that said, I've never had to use it as they're quite good at ensuring my cup of water is never sitting empty for too long.
I would certainly recommend giving this place a try. Just know that English is not the servers' primary language, so if you have questions about the menu, it might be a bit challenging. But thankfully that's a non-issue for me since I just order the A13 and chow down when it arrives.
As long as this place is open (and they don't make too many changes to their menu), I'll continue...
Read moreTheir are many korean restaurants in Duluth but none of them compare to Jang Dok Dae. I brought my Fiance and parents here in December and they greeted us at the door and sat us down expeditiously. The menu was a bit hard to understand at times but luckily Google translate helped us out for the lack of knowing korean. Once we ordered, our server was very excited to explain how we should traditionally eat our dishes and how to enhance the flavors and let me just say..... THIS IS WHY I NEVER QUESTION MY SERVERS ON HOW TO ENHANCE THE FOOD! I haven't have korean food this outstanding since I was in Seoul, South Korea. I was hit by a wave of kind memories and laughter that I almost lost in the deepest parts on my brain. Though I am not korean, these flavors were purely nostalgic in every way. If you're looking to make a memory of laughter and a great experience trying new food then I highly recommend you stop in. If you have had plenty of Korean food then stop on in for the greatest wave of nostalgia anyone could ever ask for because we all know these days...... nostalgia is...
Read moreThis restaurant is truly a gem!!! We ordered the Spicy Marinated Crab, Kimchi Stew, and Spicy Pork Bulgogi. The marinades on the crab and pork were incredible. Spicy Pork is a go to dish of mine and theirs is the best I've ever eaten from restaurants across CA, GA, VA, and NC. Banchan were on point too, all perfectly seasoned. I will definitely be coming back here whenever I'm in GA.
The ladies in the restaurant were sweet and attentive, coming over to make sure we liked everything. Some reviewers mentioned a language barrier if you don't speak Korean. The menu does not have the names of each dish in English but does have a description next to it. If you are kind, order dishes by their number, and/or know anything about Korean food going in you won't have any issues. Another bonus was the cute private tables with curtains you could close...
