I've always wanted to try Maiko, ever since they had a booth set up at the International Night Market. I knew there was a location in Atlanta, but I live out in the East and don't really like traveling there. My good friend and I stumbled upon it after a dinner at Haru Ichiban which was in the same attached shopping center, and I was in disbelief when she said that there was a Maiko where Lattea used to be! So we went, and I have been going nearly every weekend since. Their matcha is high quality, and their lattes are made how they should be - not overly sweet like most places (Starbucks/Dunkin/Bubble Tea shops). Here, you can witness and taste the true bitter strength of matcha, where I find myself often adding a couple extra shots of matcha in my latte. They also have Hojicha and black sesame. Most of their items on their menu are very light, their soft serve is made daily, and they clean their machines nightly. The staff is friendly and the decor is adorable, albeit wishing there was a larger space, but it's good it's small.
Anywho, I recommend Maiko to all Matcha lovers out there, this place is definitely the best specialty cafe around. They do not disappoint in their Matcha items.
Also btw, they have Raindrop Cake, which is made from Agar Agar and served with syrup and a nutty powder to dip in. Definitely a first...
Read moreI’ve been a customer here since they first opened shop in GA. For the past few years this place has been a staple cafe for me and my friends, but unfortunately the quality has gone down immensely and thus I think it’s time for me to walk away from this cafe. What used to be rich matcha lattes and standard sundae portions have now been replaced by extremely watery cups with a couple dashes of powder and smaller portions + lighter flavor overall. I mean seriously, I used to frequent this place every other week or so, but ever since the last few months I’ve been walking away disappointed in every cup I’ve paid for! Things just haven’t been the same since the tiktok crowd ran it over.
I understood the hype before and the increased demand, but this place has gone downhill from consistent great quality food and drinks, to hit-or-miss status, to now a complete miss with every visit. Maybe if they opened new locations that also offered the seasonal drinks in other cities here, that could circumvent the issue? But until then, my time here is done. The one star here is really just for the great and kind staff, I wish them well and I thank them for...
Read moreI came out of town to Atlanta for a dental appointment and decided while I was there to have something fun and interesting to eat. I never had Japanese style ice cream before, so I wanted to give this place a try.
They had a lot of different choices on the menu, and I had a little issue finding where the flavors were listed. One of the girls that worked there kindly explained their offerings and showed me the list. I asked for the ube and matcha green tea, and I was given a generous portion of both. The service was quick and very friendly.
I returned to my car excited to try the exotic flavors. I tried the green tea first and was pleasantly surprised by its complexity. I next tried the ube, and I found that it, while milder tasting than the green tea, was also very good. You could taste more of the base of the soft serve; it had the unmistakable classic soft serve vanilla flavor in the background that every American knows.
Overall, it was a great experience, and I recommend it to anyone who loves soft serve...
