Boomarang Diner - Durant — Restaurant in Durant

We have eaten at the diner in Durant before and last time, we were half an hour getting our food. Today, at noon, we left after waiting 55 minutes. We ordered an "old fashioned" with mayo and fried catfish. Nothing difficult or unusual. After 30 minutes, the server did come to the table, say there was a mixup and it should be out any minute. We were ready to leave then, but were hungry so we waited. Another 15 minutes went by, she came back to the table to apologize for the mixup and that it would be out right away. I was ready to go, offered to pay for our tea and husband says, we will wait. It became very clear to us, the problem was in the kitchen. In the span of the next 10 minutes, we heard the server tell a bearded gentleman, "no, it's just a hamburger with mayo" three times.

Not sure what the issue was, but we left. I understand everything is cooked fresh. I appreciate that. I also know we have had great experiences in other Boomerangs so feel like this is isolated to the one in Durant. We went 3 times and twice had to wait too long, in my opinion. Unfortunately, we probably won't come back. I only write the review to bring attention to a service problem. Hopefully, for others, someone who matters will read it.

FOLLOW UP TO THIS REVIEW 10/2/20: We live here, like Boomerang's and wanted to try again. We did, today. It was just after noon. The restaurant was about half full of working people. We were waited on immediately, the food was out very quickly, no errors, and delicious as we knew it could be. We do appreciate your offer to buy our meal, but that wasn't why I wrote the review. We had a party of 10 and got there around noon on Sunday 10/13/24. We were seated quickly and our drink orders were taken. This is where the story goes bad. We were given 2 servers to split the table. They each took orders for half the table. After the drinks were delivered we never saw one of the servers again. The young man that took our order was left on his own. When the food was ready he brought it to the table one item at a time....One burger then leave and come back with one omelet....etc. When he brought the food he just stood there and said "I have a burger with mustard. I don't know who has what she didn't tell me." We could have worked through this, but when I asked for silverware he brought 4 sets and gave them to the people who ordered lunches. He said that the rest of us had "finger food" and didn't give us any silverware. I guess if you order a burger or sandwich and fries you don't need silverware? My sister-in-law didn't get her food at all. I guess it wasn't ordered. When we asked about it she got chicken nuggets about 10 minutes later but, she ordered chicken strips. My nephew didn't get all of his order either. It was very poor service and our server never returned to the table. We were completely out of drinks and left on our own. When this was mentioned the only response we got was "well we're shorthanded and busy today and one of our workers had to leave." I’ve been debating on whether or not I wanted to leave a review because although I did not eat the food here, I must admit that the atmosphere and customer service was so distasteful. It’s honestly very disheartening that in 2023 we still live in such prejudice times. My sister, and two best friends and I were looking for a quick bite to eat before heading back to the city from my birthday trip to Choctaw Resort. We were immediately greeted with stares as we walked into the building by staff at the counter as well as customers. We were told to “pick a spot” so we proceeded to do that. Just, for another waitress to come up literally SHAKING as she was taking our drink order. Finally, after nonstop stares and chatter we decided to cancel our drink order and take that as our sign to leave and try elsewhere which is what seemed thankfully wanted as I told the lady at the front counter we would like to cancel the drink request and to have a nice day. She HAPPILY said “okay” and we took our purses and left.

I write this review with the intent of sending prayer to all those who may have hate and envy in their hearts due to the stereotypes and stigmas associated against minority groups of people. Please always remember that just because it’s not a reality experienced by one group of people that it doesn’t apply to others who endure discrimination on a day-to-day basis. This is not a pity party and I am not searching for sympathy, I am however taking this as a learning experience and advocating for genuine unity. May you...
