Not to brag or anything; but I'd consider myself an ice cream connoisseur and consume it 1 to 2 times per day by the tub, and just from various places. Healthy? Maybe not, but I do feel qualified to suggest when ice cream is good or bad.
It's expensive. Well actually... is it? I would say it is... but I also keep spending my money here, so maybe that means it's worth it. Aside from that, the ice cream is some of the best I've had. Unfortunately, it's not close to matching Hershey's Ice Cream, which is not available here, and stands strong as my favorite ice cream on Earth. That doesn't mean this isn't amazing ice cream though.
I've found my favorite is salted caramel, in a waffle cone. The cones are large, crispy and fresh. They aren't afraid to really fill them too. A single scoop is probably enough for just about anyone (but I get two because I can't help myself). The two scoops cost me about $5, which is equivalent to a Grande Starbucks Frappachino, and this feels more fulfilling than a drink from Starbucks. Staff are friendly and quick, and the store is clean and I'll happily eat inside.
The thermostat is kept warmer than I would prefer, but warmth is probably important while eating such cold food, especially during the cold season.
Bruster's replaced what used to be a frozen yogurt place, Moonberries, which I missed dearly at first - but now I'm glad this ice cream is here instead.
The shop is located right next to a sub place, so I'd highly suggest you grab a sub and get Brusters for dessert if you're looking for a perfect afternoon.
Brusters gets a 4.9, with 0.1 stars being removed due to the fact that you have to ask for a spoon, and as an anti-social person, prefer grabbing one off the...
Read moreMy birthday was a few months ago, but it felt like I was celebrating again when I tried their birthday cake flavored ice cream. I'm a Wisconsin native so I prefer custard over ice cream, but Bruster's surprised me! It tasted exactly like birthday cake with ribbons of cake icing and sprinkles. It was a bit too sweet for my liking, but I would give it another try. I returned a few days later to try their vegan strawberry oat milk option, and I couldn't believe non-dairy options as good as this one existed! Each spoonful better than the last, I was in paradise! Unfortunately, I inhaled the strawberry flavor sooner than I could take a picture of it, but I'm certain I'll try it again. They offer several other options in terms of flavors and have outdoor seating available. This location is also near Southpoint Mall if you are looking to indulge before or after doing some shopping. I truly...
Read moreWe love Bruster's, just not this locale. The ice cream is routinely soft to mushy. I asked for a sample of a peanut butter ice cream and it was so soft and warm that it practically fell off the spoon; it didn't need to melt in my mouth because it was already melted.
While I definitely like homemade waffle cones made on site, the smell of this Bruster's is overwhelming. It's a very thick heavy smell that permeates everything nearly to the point of overpowering the flavor of the ice cream.
As much as I wanted the peanut butter ice cream, I selected another flavor that was colder and firmer than my sample. This was our 3rd visit with nearly the same outcome. We'll look for another store, like the one on Durant...
