My partner and I tried some different items from the durham food hall. We both had entrees from patty boy, a double patty smash burger, and an offer of chicken tenders with a side of tater tots and buffalo sauce. I also had bao buns with corner yaki. While i didn’t get a pic of it, we also had fruit teas with milk lab.
The smash burger was delectable, i think due to it being a smash burger you gotta go with the double. This burger taste like a big mac and idk why that is but this feels like their love child. every bite was delicious. a bit of a messy burger but i wouldn’t have it any other way. The chicken tenders were crispy and had a nice crunch, wirh a nice layer of fat to give you a truly respectable tender. it was seasoned well and a must have. the buffalo sauce was more on the spectrum of vinegar based so it was a little tangy and sour, think of Texas pete, tabasco in consistency. Prices were about what you can expect from a food hall but rest assured these items will not disappoint.
On the other hand, corner yaki disappointed with these pork belly kimchi bao buns. for ten dollars you get two. The pork belly was just disappointing. It wasn’t crispy, and i can understand that but the fatty lining was rubbery and hard to chew. I had to peel it off unfortunately. the actual taste of the pork belly wasn’t bad but pork can be tricky. It just didn’t stand out flavor wise. the kimchi was fine, right balance between acidity and flavor. i can see the vision for this plate. A beautiful blend between savory acidity and sweetness from the kewpie mayo. But it just drops the ball here. I think maybe if the pork was made crisper, or even a tad bit thicker, it would work better. Id pay two extra dollars if it meant higher quality pork belly. i’m hoping it wasn’t a true reflection of this one item. i’m still looking forward to ordering from here as their menu is varied and full of different flavors.
Milk lab is a must when being here, i had a mango fruit tea that was blended and it just hit the spot. be warned, this place stays busy so I would recommend getting a drink first and ordering food second. Unfortunately it was just one person behind the counter so we had to wait longer than usual however the order came out perfect, hoping they can get some staff in to ease the burden of order taking/making. shoutout...
Read moreTook a day trip into NC in search of a proper meal, I was pleasantly surprised by the Durham food Hall. It was like a kaleidoscope of energy and authenticity. I was enthusiastically satisfied by some of my food and absolutely amazed by one vendor. Because I truly love food of course I ordered from five different vendors different meals. I also ordered a dessert bite and a cortado to start the adventure. I don't know normally do dessert so it's not something I would traditionally order after a meal on the rare occasion in a year that I do want a sweet I definitely will order it as an appetizer. In the Durham food Hall I was able to order a peanut butter cup chocolate cheesecake bite within 15 ft of coming through the door. I was so excited I couldn't wait to have a seat at the coffee bar(Liturgy) not 5 ft away. In my opinion the best way to start a food experience is with an espresso or cortado. So my journey began, next was a veggie crunchwrap that probably weighed a pound( Ex- Voto), then on to a dosa with a vegetable curry( Mango Indian Grill), followed by the most exquisite tuna melt that I've ever had in my life along with smoked fish dip and good old saltine crackers (Locals Seafood and Market). This may sound like a step down from the absolute vibrancy of an Indian curry and fresh made dosa it might even seem to pale in comparison to a very well thought out vegetarian crunchwrap with a house made carrot habanero hot sauce. But honestly that tuna melts sadly changed my life. I don't believe I'll ever be able to order a tuna melt anywhere else I don't believe I'll be able to order tuna salad anywhere because once you've tasted something so pure and refreshing anything else is going to pretty much taste like an...
Read moreMy son just moved to Durham, so I’m a regular now…lol! First off, this food hall is amazing! I was so impressed. Being from South Florida, we’re kind of snobby about food and restaurants, but this place held up on the food side. The people were stand-offish and not as warm as I am accustomed to, but I guess that might just be the general area, not sure. The bartender was ho-hum and not super interested in being there. And the taco place guy was unfriendly. Having said that, I can’t punish that cool place because of two people. The gelato guy was awesome, etc. In other words, each little location has their own team running their section. Some will be better than others, that’s all. I’ll still go back and seek out the happy people 🙃
*Response to food hall reply: I don’t remember the date but it was during the week at 6pm ish. The Mexican place was the first one on the left when you go down the stairs. It was a male attendant. The bar was the one in the middle and it was a female bartender. Everything else was super great! Can’t wait to try the...
