The Rickhouse Durham — Local services in Durham

First, we LOVED the experience of our event itself at the Rickhouse. But we have been really frustrated by lack of communication from the team in trying to resolve an issue that came up after our event with some rental items that went missing. It's impossible for us to know exactly what happened to the items, because we weren't there. But it's unprofessional to: (1) withhold money from a security deposit without telling someone that you're doing so (until asked why), and (2) ignore subsequent emails asking to try to resolve things.

These communication issues are coming after an issue that occurred previously where we were going to be charged an incredibly high catering fee that was not disclosed when we signed our initial contract. We were able to resolve the catering fee issue, but our emails to resolve the second issue are going ignored. The issue isn't a huge amount of money, but the principal of taking responsibility when something doesn't go right rather than pushing that off to your guests.

While we can definitely recommend the experience and the aesthetics of the Rickhouse - our guests loved it and so did we! - and the team in terms of their presence and support during the event itself, we have felt really let down by our post-event communication with them and the fact that we're now basically being ghosted. Cannot say enough good things about the Rickhouse. We've photographed several weddings here and can't wait to be back later this year. The location cannot be beaten, especially if you like a good after party as it's in the neighborhood of some of Durham's most-loved bars. The space is unmatched for industrial chic style—not only do you have exposed I-beams above you, but a huge glass wall looks onto the distillery equipment for a unique backdrop or talking point for your guests. Add the uniquely Durham charm of the Durham Athletic Park (former home of the Durham Bulls), over which the Rickhouse's covered patio looks, and it all combines to make one of our favorite Durham venues. Absolutely the BEST venue in the Triangle. The space is elegant and picturesque. There are so many additional perks you will not find anywhere else. The space overlooks the old Durham Bulls ball park which is a beautiful backdrop for photos. Rentals include tables and chairs which is amazing if you need something additional during an event. The list of preferred vendors are the best.

The staff entire staff is professional and will work relentlessly to make your vision possible. The people at The Rickhouse is what made our event special.
