Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams — Restaurant in Durham

My husband and I walked into the shop this afternoon after lunch. Besides a woman sitting outside enjoying her ice cream, no one was patronizing the establishment. The only two people in the shop were a gentleman behind the register and a young lady behind the ice cream bar. When we walk into a store, we expect to be acknowledged through a greeting. The two employees looked up when we walked in - the lady made eye contact with me - and said absolutely nothing. No “welcome”, no “hello”, no “how can I help you?” Nothing. It was abundantly clear that our presence was of no importance. We walked up to the ice cream and perused the selections all the way to the other side of the bar. Still, no acknowledgment whatsoever. As we were walking out, my husband and I both looked at them to give them an opportunity (again) to acknowledge us - still nothing. I said out loud, “this is horrible customer service” once we both had one foot out the door and it was clear that the employees were never going to acknowledge us. Jeni's never fails to have the most interesting and best tasting ice cream around. I'd say I'm a traditionalist - not much can get me to sway away from my chocolate in a sugar cone, but Jeni's has me ordering actual whole cones - and waffle BOWLS - of even the chocolate-free flavors (who would have thought their latest invention, Pumpkin Seed with Rye Crumb, would be good? It was AMAZING!) Even their dairy- and gluten-free options (which sometimes leave you still with that ice cream craving) could easily be mistaken for dairy ice cream! Honestly I now compare everything to Jeni's.

Sustainability-wise, thank you! Finally a place that uses washable tasting spoons! And I love that they encourage you to try all their flavors by welcoming you in with a "Welcome to Jeni's, what flavor can I get for you to try today?" :) My heart!

This particular location rocks because their staff are loyal and LOVE their ice cream and their jobs. They take pride in what they do and in their customers. It's beautiful to see how happy employees creates a happy work place, and thus a happy space for clientele!

Our first time in was incredible. As was our second:) We were amazed by how educated each server was on all their flavors, and there are a lot. And I always love when you can have as many samples as you want. My husband and I are slow to make decisions and both servers were very patient with us.

The flavors are what I could talk about for much longer than you'd care to hear. But truly, they are an experience worth the price. Some food makes memories, for us this ice-cream did. So much so that we came back two days later, and then maybe again? And months later I can still remember the flavors. The ice-cream itself is extremely quality and has both delicious and unique flavor combinations. The salty caramel was so memorable for us, I've never had a flavor quite like it.

The atmosphere was upbeat and the decor was happy, they had nice indoor and outdoor seating and we found everything to be clean. The location is also near a sweet shopping center so its easy to walk over and stop in.
