I had never been to a Peruvian restaurant before but my wife and I read some of the 5-star glowing reviews and decided to try it on Dec 11, 2019 and goodness, what a great decision that was; everything was outstanding! I hesitate to write this review because I selfishly want to keep this place for just my wife and I but it is a family-run operation with outstanding customer service and the word will spread soon anyway so the long lines and hard-to-get reservations are the inevitable destination for this place. We tried several dishes and all were very flavorful; nice portions (we had to take some it home afterward as leftovers were enough for another meal) and check this, I even asked for some small plastic cups/lids to pour the leftover sauces from each of our dish plates so that we could use it to soak up with homemade bread to eat tomorrow or the weekend as a standalone meal - never done that before from any restaurant in my whole life!! I had Choros a la Chaca (Mussels appetizer) which was packed full of ceviche flavors -awesome - and Sudado de Pescado w/Sea Bass and it was to die for, too. My wife had fried plantains, Choclo a la Huancaina and Chaufa de Camarones. If you want to introduce your tastebuds to a completely new world of deliciousness, head over to Mi Peru Peruvian Cuisine Durham. The address sneaks up on you off Sharon Rd in Durham. We had outstanding service from Manuel; food was lightning fast served! We'll be going back there again soon. If this place were a 100-seat venue on Franklin Street-Chapel Hill, you wouldn't be able to get a seat or...
Read moreThe food is not good, it made my stomach hurt and kept me up all night. I ordered the Seco de res, it’s in the trash after one bite. It smelled of dog food, and immediately got grossed out. Ordered the ceviche, tasted bland no salt or spices were used, and the Peruvian nuts were stale. The ceviche just tasted of raw tilapia; fish. Ordered the tacu tacu and the meat tastes like the eye steak from Walmart, the rice and beans were dry, like the beans were all flacky. The papa la huancaina was bland, no flavor of the the huancaina at all. I ordered this for my family spent over $70 and didn’t enjoy a thing. When my food came out, it only came out with one small Togo aji in plastic container. I asked for more but a different kind and, I got the same kind in another one small container. The aji was lacking flavor no salt again just really spicy. I could not enjoy anything, and tried to eat Peruvian food without aji, for them being too stingy. You would think they would offer another type of aji for driving more than a while and spending...
Read moreI was in the area working when I spotted this place just tucked away, I wanted something different so I decided to see what they had to offer, I wasn't even sure I would dine here until I walked up to go inside, 2 patrons were ahead of me at the door talking and one stated, " this is the place I was telling you about, I eat here 3x's a week" that was all I needed to hear. I'm a bona-fide foodie with expert taste buds lol, and a keen eye for bad service. I ordered the chicken fried rice for lunch and had the passion fruit drink, the place was mildy busy, good traffic, the food was absolutely delicious! Infact to date, it was the best I've had from anywhere Peruvian or not! What I didn't like was not a single time did my waiter check on me, my drink needed a refill, if I have to ask for that, even when I watch you look at my table several times and not even an acknowledgement, your service to me was bad! If there was a charge for the refill I was fine with that. Just provide better service...
