Good takeout Thai food that is quick and very tasty. The portions are pretty large so you can get effectively filled up.
It seems relatively authentic but I am no expert. The clientele and style of service makes me think it is probably altered to cater to American palates, but it's still quite good.
I exclusively order by phone for takeout here, which is consistently good. I typically get one of the noodle dishes but I have also tried the red curry with chicken and friends have tried some vegetarian dishes. All have been quite enjoyable. If you ask for "very spicy" it comes with a solid amount of heat but not so much that you cannot eat the meal. I like spicy food and have a good tolerance and still got some sweat on my brow and had to slow down. But I have tasted spicier. One problem: the noodles for takeout can sometimes begin to congeal and stick together too much in the plastic takeout containers. It doesn't affect the taste but it's not ideal. Also you need to ask to get some of the side spices or "tastes." especially if you want the dried chili pepper powder rather than the standard red saucy style.
The food is made very fast. They typically tell me I can pick it up within 10 minutes of placing the order and it's always ready when I arrive with the receipt out on a table ready for me to pay with credit card or cash. I don't think I would eat in here. It's usually pretty empty and not a very good space for a nice dinner or even casual sit down dinner because tables are close together and they have so many people coming right into the heart of the room to pick up their takeout. They do try to add some decor, but it doesn't succeed in making it feel nice or authentic inside.
Overall, my preferred takeout Thai location in Durham and perhaps the winner for taste...
Read moreFor a restaurant that was described as “concerningly Asian” by the couple next to me, this was a lovely experience. I found the level of Asian-ness to be perfectly acceptable for Durham, NC - and in fact it was pretty standard as far as Thai restaurants go. The entire front of house was run by one man. I do not know his name, but he is my personal hero. He was seating tables, taking orders, running food, refilling drinks, and processing checks with more efficiency than a coordinated strike team. Now I hear what you’re thinking: “Hey Adrian, Coordinated Strike Teams don’t run restaurants.” And to that I say: Shut up. Overall, service gets five stars. The food was subtle but flavorful. I got the Thai Basil Fried Rice because my white posterior cannot handle much spicier than BBQ Sauce. It was not only incredibly flavorful and texture rich, but also satisfying. It was a perfect lunch portion. I’m a Big Boy so I tend to eat a bit more than most folks, so expect to get a to-go box. Five stars for food quality, portion, and flavor. The atmosphere was as expected. Picture any given asian restaurant in a strip mall. Now make it 5% cleaner. Perfect. You’ve just imagined the atmosphere of Twisted Noodles. I imagine the couple next to me was venturing outside their McDonald’s comfort zone to describe it the way they did. Four stars for atmosphere. It’s pleasant and inoffensive. Overall it’s a great lunch spot. I’ll definitely be back. And if you go, tip your server. He’s deep in the trenches from clock in to clock out, and it’s partially your...
Read moreOMG! This is the best Thai food I've had in a long time. I love Thai and had a taste for dinner. Decided to check out this place after reading the reviews, and I'm so glad I did!
The green curry was absolutely delicious! I dare say it's the best green curry I've ever had. My go to is usually panang or red curry, but this looked really good, and the taste was even better. The curry had the perfect level of heat, with a lovely acid balance the fragrant taste of keffir lime. The Thai basil was fresh and the veggies cooked perfectly with just the right amount of crisp. The chicken was nice and tender, and I'm eager to try the calamari in the curry next time. My daughter got a peanut chicken with broccoli that was really good. The peanut sauce was delicious. We also enjoyed the dumplings which were lightly fried and had a wonderful flavor. I usually get them steamed, but these were outstanding.
The great ending to the meal was the mango sticky rice, which was prepared perfectly. I could not ask more of a great meal.
The service was great and the waiter was very accomodating. The restaurant was quaint and cozy with a beautiful fish tank against the wall. The staff was playing some old school R&B, which put a smile on my face.
I highly recommend this place and can't wait to go back! I look forward to trying other dishes, but it's hard to get the green curry...
