I hail from Chicago, and since arriving to Raleigh, its been a struggle to find "good food" in this town, compared to what I'm used to back home. None of my Chicago friends who live here DARED give any recommendations on Chinese restaurants, so it became a, "tread lightly" experiment. I eventually found a place near the NC State campus, but it's pretty far from my house. Recently, after work, I Google Map'd Chinese restaurants near my location and Orient Garden popped up. Instead of calling, I decided to drive there to place my order in person, after laying eyes in the place. To my surprise, there was a line out the door, or so I thought: after 3pm, they only do take out. I walked up and viewed the menu, and, instead of my usual go to General Tso's Chicken, I settled on the garlic vegetable and chicken stir fry (I asked them to cook it without the spice, and she kindly obliged). I got it home, about a 15 min drive, and immediately tore into it. It was great! The veggies were crisp and hot, and it sat in a garlic sauce that I wish I could request on all my dishes from here on out. Very flavorful, and enough for me to split into meals (dinner for tomorrow night). I will be back, as the true test is that General Two's chicken, so stay tuned!

While most restaurants reopened their dine in service long ago since covid isn't a pandemic anymore, I'm happy to say Orient Garden has finally reopened their dine in service rather than just having take out. The menu isn't as big as before, and the prices have gone up, which is understandable. They haven't added soup back to the menu yet, but they said they will soon. My spouse and I each got a spring roll, which was bigger than I remembered. Unfortunately, it wasn't as good as I recall it being. She got the shrimp and mixed vegetables, which she said was just okay, but it was a very big portion. I had the Szechuan chicken, which had tons of huge pieces of chicken, but was just okay too. We both had plenty of leftovers to bring home. It tasted much better as leftovers. Hopefully, this was just reopening jitters cos they always had the best Chinese around.

I really like Chinese food, and I regularly went to a very good place that is far from where I live, but it was worth the trip. There is a mall very close to my house and every time I passed by this Orient Garden restaurant I ALWAYS saw that it had people. The place at this time only offers take out service. Today when I was starving and not willing to drive so much to go to the other place, I decided to give this one a try. Wow! what a surprise! To start with, the prices are almost the same but with the difference that the quantity of food is greater. Chinese food is usually a bit greasy, but this turned out to be a lot less greasy. As it was not in my plans to go there, I did not order in advance and was afraid that the wait would be long. But not! only 12 min was enough. and another 5 min to drive and enjoy this rich and delicious food!

I hardly ever leave bad reviews. I get excited trying new places and giving reviews after going. This place... has made the bad review list. Not due to the food. I never had a chance to get any.

I called and placed my order at 7:16. The woman placed me on hold for 8 minutes before taking my order. I understood she was probably busy with customers in front of her. When she came back to the phone she took my order and I kept having to repeat it and my name because she was talking to someone else. Not cool but I wasn't upset.

I got to the restaurant at 7:41 because she said 15 minutes.

I got there told her my name and what I ordered. She said oh it's not ready yet let me go check in the back. She went in the back and came back and another customer came in and she asked assisted them. Then she came to me and asked what did I order again. So I told her. She goes back behind the register and calls someone on her cell and talks for five minutes. Another customer gets there and gets there food.

So I'm sitting there thinking well damn I told her my order 3 times already it should be ready soon. But no another customer comes in whose food isn't ready and she looks at my face and when she tells the woman working she was picking up the woman said it's not ready have a seat. So her already seeing my face asks well how much longer do you think? She says "ummm maybe about 10 minutes.

I get up and walk toward the door to call my fiance. And the woman begins yelling "umm ma'am ma'am what did you order. This time she has a pen and paper as if she's about to write it down this time.

I told her to forget it because I've waiting for nearly 50 minutes after placing the order an hour prior.

Never again will I waste my time trying this place.

Terrible first and...

Horrible customer service!!! I have been eating at this restaurant for years. However, this evening was my last time ever returning. Tonight I treated my mentee to dinner at Orient Garden. After eating I went to checkout, but did not leave a tip on the table because I did not have change. While waiting to pay for my food I notice my server came and stood directly beside the checkout area. She stood there with arms folded appearing upset and looking like she was upset about something. After breaking a large bill and receiving some change I tipped the server. She immediately walked off. I found it totally disrespectful and unprofessional that the server came to the checkout area to wait for a tip. I do not understand at all why the server even thought I would not tip her or why she found it appropriate to approach me for a tip. I work part-time as a bartender and I understand the importance of tipping servers. I had no intention whatsoever not to tip the server. However, it is inappropriate to approach a customer to wait or ask for a tip. The customer service at Orient Garden was already less than satisfactory. This event has made me finalize my decision to discontinue patronizing the restaurant. The manager did not apologize for the server's actions until I stated my intention of no longer eating at the restaurant. Beware of the...

I used to truly love this place years ago. Their food was always great quality and clean and tasty. I love that the vegetables in the dishes are crisp and vibrant. The owners were always very nice to me and remembered me and my family and always had true conversations with me, especially the father of the family who owned the shop.

They’re still pretty good but I feel maybe they changed their cooks? Possibly? It seems their food doesn’t exactly have the flavor and quality it used to. I still go to them when I’m in town visiting family though because I do enjoy their food more than some other places near by.

I do wish they delivered sometimes but I understand that maybe that would play a part in altering other aspects of running the store. I do also dislike that they’re closed on Sundays. There were plenty of instances when I had a craving and then made my way there just to be reminded they’re closed on Sunday.

The location is pretty convenient, there is enough parking seeing as the store is in a shopping center. It’s a wheelchair accessible location. The inside offers seating for maybe ten groups of four and maybe three groups of five or six.

I’d suggest giving this place a try at least once. They’re clean and friendly.

The success of your experience solely depends on your expectations and standards of...
