I had high hopes for my visit, and I want to start by saying that Brett at the front desk was very kind and helpful throughout the process. I originally came in for a vehicle inspection, during which I was informed that I needed two new front tires to pass. I agreed to the service and even applied for financing, which was a smooth and helpful option.
Before leaving, I let Brett know that I would be driving out of town the next day and asked for an additional service to ensure my car was road-ready and safe. Unfortunately, as I was driving home, I noticed the car pulling erratically from one side to the other—especially noticeable during turns. At one point, while going through a drive-thru, the steering was so unpredictable I nearly hit a wall.
I called immediately and scheduled a follow-up for the Tuesday after I returned. It turned out the issue was a broken ball joint—a serious safety hazard that should never have been overlooked. I had unknowingly driven six hours on the highway with this issue, which could have led to a catastrophic accident.
While I appreciate that they repaired the ball joint at no additional charge, I’m shocked that my vehicle wasn’t properly test-driven after the initial service. The fact that I left the shop in worse—and more dangerous—condition than when I arrived is deeply upsetting. I am grateful nothing happened during my trip, but I won’t be returning to this location. Safety checks must be taken seriously, and in this case,...
Read moreI went in recently for a routine state inspection on my Subaru Outback, which has been running perfectly with no issues. Before they even started the inspection, the technician immediately told me my tires were “too old” (from 2018) and therefore wouldn’t pass. I was very surprised by this because North Carolina inspection rules are based on condition and tread, not the age of the tire. My tread was completely fine.
When I mentioned this, I was told they’d be “happy” to replace all four tires on the spot — for around $1,200. Not only is that extremely high compared to places like Costco, but the implication felt like I only had two options: buy new tires from them at their price or take my car somewhere else.
I did exactly that — I drove straight to Jiffy Lube down the road, where they checked my tread, confirmed the tires were safe, and passed my inspection without issue.
This experience really disappointed me. It came across less like a legitimate safety concern and more like an attempt to upsell me on an expensive service I didn’t actually need. Trust is critical when it comes to car service, and unfortunately this visit left me feeling like Chapel Hill Tire was prioritizing sales over honesty.
I won’t be returning, and I’d encourage anyone considering this shop to be cautious and get a second opinion before agreeing to any major service...
Read moreCame in for just a state inspection while I was on lunch. Car was pulled back immediately but the whole process took longer than expected. That's when I got a text with pictures showing they were going through my whole car looking for stuff to uncharge for instead of doing just the inspection I requested. As soon as I told the guy at the front I just wanted the inspection and nothing else, he went back and told the mechanics who brought my car out immediately, meaning I could have been done much earlier. I've never run into this at any other inspection station, especially considering it passed 100%. They also tried to tell me the carfax doesn't state an alignment has ever been done so I should get one, but when they sent me the carfax report, it shows it being done less than a year ago and only 6k miles ago. The service agents shouldn't lie to...
