Tony Roma's — Restaurant in Durham

Used to order from here 1-2 times each week, always placed the order online, and then picked it up. The last order we placed online, was good, but once we got home, we realized that they had forgotten the cheesecake, we went back and they said there was no manager there to talk to that could approve them giving us the missing cheesecake which was on the receipt BTW, we were like we've paid well over $100 for food and nobody can make a decision to give us the cheesecake we're missing?! For this reason, we haven't been back in almost 2 years.

I decided to give it a try today for Mother's Day, to treat myself since I had some time to sit down for a meal, I went in and they said there were seats at the bar. The bartender was nice, but initially, I asked if I paid an upcharge for the steak and ribs, if I could get beef because I don't eat pork, they said no, that was no big deal, so I just ordered a steak (probably should've just tried the beef ribs instead), but I asked for mashed potatoes and was given baked, again, no big deal, but I wish he would've asked me how my meal was because it was not good at alllll, and it was overcooked. I tried really hard to get through it, but left the majority of the meal on the plate untouched and stopped elsewhere to get something to take home. I don't know if it's just an off night or if the food has gone that far downhill. Then I asked for a cheesecake to go and it was brought on a plate, by the same guy who replaced the baked potato for mashed, but he seemed annoyed and wouldn't even look at me when he brought out the bag with...

Food quality is good and price is in a reasonable range, however, few improvements needed. Based on my own experience as a waitress at a fully packed busy restaurant, the issues are not based on short staffed only:

Reservation: we reserved table due to having a large group, but when we arrived, no one knows about it and the hostess needed to arrange for us (thank you). It's fine, but please give us menus when you give us the silverware. We needed to get it ourselves.

Wait time too long: When waitress finally stopped by (probably over 15 minutes), asked for drinks, then another 10-15 mins wait for giving us our waters. Fortunately we stopped her leaving and placed our orders, cannot imagine how much longer wait is needed if we didn't stop her leaving our table. Then, our food didn't come until almost 30+ mins later, fortunately we were able to chat through the time. I was able to see the food were sitting at the window for quite a while, no one was taking any out.

One thing at a time, only after you asked: every time we needed to stop the waitress when she walked by (yes, walk pass us like no one there) if we needed something (like napkins) because she walked by many times but only asked us about 2-3 times if things doing ok, within 30-40 mins after food arrived. And we needed to ask for check when she walked by again (yes, after napkins, not stop by our table at all, even everyone stopped eating for a while.

By the way, we didn't have any rolls or bread at all... Overall, food was good but service was not...

In short, this restaurant exceeded all my expectations. The combination of delicious food, exceptional service and lovely atmosphere makes it a place I would definitely recommend to all food lovers. "I can't wait to come back and try more culinary delights at this...
