First visit to the Clemson area and to The Smokin' Pig, certainly won't be the last despite it being for hours away. Between my wife and I, we've been to multiple BBQ joints from Rhode Island down to Florida, as well as Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Memphis, TN (so the likes of The Commissary, etc. are being considered) and, thus far, this is the best BBQ we've had. I wasn't "hungry", but I still make it a point to try most of what a place new to me has to offer. So I ordered a 1/2 chicken and pork plate, with BBQ beans and loaded potato casserole for the sides AND a 1/2 rack glazed rib plate, with sweet potato crunch (it's precise name now escapes me sorry) and another BBQ beans (I love my beans - my family when I order them before a four hour drive back to Charleston, not so much). The chicken was moist, it's skin with just enough rub and it wasn't some small test tube chicken either. The ribs, just enough chew on the outside, tenderness in the middle and then falling off the bone, the glaze was superb. The pulled pork, wow, I expected a little ice cream scoop sized portion...nope! Lots of pulled pork! The loaded potato casserole was perfect, just enough sour cream and cheese (not detectable or visible bacon though, which is inclusive in "loaded" in my opinion but to each their own). The sweet potato crunch casserole stuff, yum. The BBQ sauces, excellent!! They have a "hot" available for the asking. Be sure to finish it all of with their banana pudding. We left fuller than I would have liked, but gluttony got the better of me, leaving with meat sweats. Both our server and Amy was excellent. Upon learning it was our first visit and wondering why there was an extra plate to person ratio, I told Amy, "I like to try a little of anything when I go somewhere new." She asked, "Why no brisket?", to which I replied, "I've yet to try one that I like that I didn't make." She brought me a sample and I'm glad she did, thank you Ms. Amy! The sooner ring was clearly visible, though it's bark was a little light, however, it had great taste and was succulent and tender! We're so glad we stopped. We...
Read moreI Really love this place. Their warm vintage/barn ambiance, is right up my alley & the simple food, done really REALLY well is something I can definitely appreciate! It's one of our few top pick restaurants. Where we always take family & friends during their visits because, it's reliable, has great food at reasonable prices, & the staff is nice. The 1st time I was there, it was a little different because, you pay 1st, then sit & are served. I wasn't expecting that, but I can see why they do it that way. It really keeps things moving & this place is usually packed! After you order and are seated, there's barely a wait till you get your food. I've tried everything on the menu, even all of their sides & seasonal cobblers (apple, & blackberry are my favorites btw). Even though there are items I prefer over others, I would still be happy eating anything off of their menu! The only "negative" experience I've Ever had, was when I encountered a rude cashier.. That's it! No one's perfect 100% of the time! AND, It only happened that once! Anyone else I've ever had wait on me, was so nice and helpful. The lady who works with the catering is simply amazing! I'd be here for another hour telling you about how sweet and helpful she is. The reason I give it 5 stars is because, I can't give it 4.8 & the only complaint is.. I wish they were opened a little bit longer, and for a few more days. But then again... I know that BBQ'n takes A LOT of long hours and work to...
Read moreStopped into The Smokin’ Pig for the first time while visiting Easley with my family. Parking and access were easy. We ordered at the desk/counter as soon as we walked in, and seated ourselves immediately. Place is quiet but bustling. Dining room was naturally lit and comfortable. Friendly helpful waitress came by to deliver the drinks we ordered at the counter, and to drop off setups and a neat little snack of delicious fresh pork rinds.
Food was delivered promptly by kitchen staff, assisting our waitress.
We ordered two different pulled pork plates and one rib plate. All of the food was served hot, and correct. Pork was nicely chopped, and had no chunks of fat/rind like some places do. Baked beans piping hot. Regular french fries were good, but not hot. Sweet potato fries were crispy and good (although will try them dry next time without honey/sweetener). The only low beat were the rolls. They were dry and a bit stale. Waitress checked in from time to time, and kept drink refills coming.
Each plate was enough food for a very filling meal, plus enough to take home for another large meal.
Net: Recommended. Will be our go/to for next...
