Cathay Garden — Restaurant in East Greenwich

New Years Eve 2018 - called in an order for pick-up 'round 5p.m., told it would be ready in 40 minutes. Arrived at the time stated to find the place is mobbed with people waiting, OK I think - running a little bit late, after all, it is a holiday, but......... No orders coming out, angry people around me who had called in hours before - one even ordered online the day before!!!!! When I heard all of the complaints from people waiting, I left, thinking it was a lost cause. Cathy Garden, you lost a customer forever. If you can't fill the orders, you are overwhelmed, or understaffed - DON"T take anymore orders, you fools. I will spread the word that Cathy Garden sucks.

Update - almost one month later: no response to my review, Cathy garden???? No explanation, no apology??? All those customers waiting anf you continued to take more orders??? I guess you just don't care - most merchants and business owners would respond and try to save custom. I will double down on warning people off Cathy...

This gem was just taken over by the chief and his family who worked under the old owners. Not only have they maintained the quality that has made Cathy Garden a staple on Main Street, but they are elevating the restaurant to next levels. They are slowly modernizing the dining room which is always spotless. The bartender/front man down the restaurant (owners son Ming) is an incredible host. The family makes you feel welcomed, and it is very easy to tell the pride they put into their flavorful and always fresh food. Bathrooms are small, but clean. Could not ask for a better hidden gem among very expensive restaurants where you can get as good of a meal, and enjoy a nice atmosphere for pennies...

A place you can always depend on. Family run and I've experienced 3 different families running it over a 40 year span...all doing an exceptional job. Start with an exotic tropical drink for $10 that is very generous. I like the boneless sparerib combination plate and the beef teriyaki combination plate but you can't go wrong based on what my fellow diners ordered over the years. Prices and portions are excellent.

The waitress, Qiao, pronounced "Cow" is superb. Super friendly, upbeat and efficient.

The family members really work hard to please their customers. I pass by 3 Asian restaurants to drive to Cathay Garden. They're all good...
