Great place for dinner. With a few minor improvements it would be a 5 star go to dinner restaurant for me.
TLDR: food was great except for 1 dish, service was quite good, atmosphere was comfortable but too loud. Read on for details.
We sat at the round tables with leather chairs - its one of the most comfortable arrangements I've experienced at a restaurant - the table was large enough to not feel cramped and I could easily stretch my legs under the table. The waitress was super nice, down to earth, and responsive. We ordered the kids food first, and it came with minutes and was high quality and tasty. One area that I thought could be improved was that at 6pm on Friday night with the restaurant about half full, it was very, very loud. The music was cranked but very muddled and the background noise of conversation was so loud that I had to lean over to hear what my family members was saying to me. The high ceilings likely contribute to the noise - I think some sound deadening panels or maybe better speaker arrangement/equalization would improve the atmosphere quite a bit.
I ordered the vegan noodle bowl and my wife ordered the seared salmon. The salmon dish was very good - just the right level of familiar comfort flavors with some nice touches like a fig dipping sauce. I thought the dish would appeal to many different pallettes. The noodle bowl was flawed - excellent and quality ingredient choices, but the broth to ingredients ratio was way too high and overall it was too spicy. Less broth a little less heat, and maybe the option of a soft boiled egg and this would have...
Read moreSome of the best food I've ever had! The nachos were awesome and honestly the fried tomato was probably the best appetizer I've ever had. Not kidding, I was blown away.
Their food variety was also great for such a short menu. They actually had good vegetarian options. As someone who is a vegetarian, it's hard to find bars with good vegetarian food but honestly this place rocked. Ask for nachos with no meat, which they call their trivia nachos, and you won't be disappointed. And again THOSE FRIED TOMATOES.
Great atmosphere and large open windows so you can enjoy the outdoor breeze and our server Jenn was really kind and attentive!!!
They are also open until 1 am and we were able to get drinks AND food. Which a lot of places dont offer food that late, so I was ecstatic.
I was also surprised at their mocktails. I went with someone who is unable to drink and usually most bars don't have great nonalcoholic options but the mocktail they ordered was delicious. I may have stole a few sips.
Their regular drinks were great too! I tried the union's finest drink which was a whiskey cocktail and it was very refreshing!
Will definitely come back and would...
Read moreThe staff goes above and beyond accommodating guests. I reached out to Erin, the manager, to see if I could make a reservation for 18 of us after my son's high school graduation. Our arrival time needed to be somewhat flexible since there were factors outside of our control. We made it for 9pm, and she assured me that if we were a little later, it would be ok. We just needed to order food before 10pm because that is when the kitchen closes. Our group arrived somewhat staggered. We were given seats in the side room area by the back bar. It was plenty of space for our large group and offered us privacy from the rest of the restaurant. Our food came out quickly. Drinks were made perfectly, and our server EJ flawlessly juggled our many requests and made paying for our meal super easy by separating us different checks ahead of time. I highly recommend using this establishment if you have a private function or if you are looking for a restaurant that can accommodate large groups. Thank you Erin, EJ, and the rest of the staff at Union and Main for providing a wonderful...
