When I called the restaurant, the person who answered the phone took my order, but seemed to have trouble understanding me when I asked for recommendations. I finally went with the Mutton curry, and my husband ordered the chicken korma. I was informed that the wait would be forty minutes, which was fine.
My husband walked into the restaurant and was informed that he would have to wait another twenty minutes and they were out of rice, which honestly flabbergasts me. How does an Indian place not have rice? He was informed that the delay was because they ran out of rice. He was NEVER informed that they were short staffed. I was NEVER told on phone they were short staffed. It was all blamed on a lack of rice which is completely ridiculous for a restaurant.
My husband decided to give them that 20 minutes, but if they didn't have it by then, he would have walked out. They just barely made it. He brought it home. The food was nice and hot. However, there were other issues with it. I tried a bite of my husband's food. The Korma tasted as if they had added NO salt at all. Now I don't eat a lot of salt. Most of the time restaurant food is a little too salty to me. The korma, while I could certainly taste the other spices, was completely, utterly, and totally devoid of salt. I asked for a spice of 5 on their scale of 1-10. It was not spicy at all.
The samosas were actually really good and well done. I liked them a lot. The garlic naan, however, was not fully cooked. It actually doughy in the middle, more than just a chewy bread, it was literally not finished baking.
The mutton curry actually was quite a bit better. For once, a restaurant did not over salt it, but at least it had salt. The flavour was good. The problem was, I asked for a 7 on their spiciness scale and what I received was more like a 1, maybe a 2.
I've also been quite frustrated by the two replies I've seen on other reviews here by the owner. Supposedly, all customers were informed they were short staffed. This is a blatant lie. On the phone, when he told me how long the wait was, I said 'Forty minutes? Really?' and his reply was 'Yes, that's right.'. There was no explanation as to why the wait was o long. As listed above, when my husband arrived and was told he'd have to wait even LONG, the lack of rice was blamed. I'm not sure I will try this restaurant again or not when we next come to Lancaster. It had good reviews from others, but it did not...
Read morePlace is kind of dirty. Bathroom door doesnt shut properly. Urinal haas a bag over it. 2nd drink station is by the bathrooms. Just not an ideal place to have plates and glasses. Service was fine. Food lacked spice and flavor. Chicken tikka masala was very bland. Aftertaste funny On a spicy measurement they want you to choose from 1-10. I chose a 4 hoping for basicallly medium if its on the spicy side. Didnt taste any spice whatsoever. Maybe 7 is a medium? I usually find the most accurate rating on a 1-5 rating. My mom ordered chicken vindaloo and got goat vindaloo i guess it was? It wasnt chicken thats for sure. And her sauce was wayy too red and tomato-y for a vindaloo no? Maybe thats the style blend of Nepal? Of everything I always expect the naan to be really great and fresh when going to indian restaurants. Nothing more warming and satisfying then ripping off a piece of fresh naan and dunking it a good sauce and then some rice/chicken. The naan was a little hard. Not sure it was made fresh. After taste of the each sauce just felt bland. We had alooo gobi also. that was the most complete tasting. The Samosa crust was much too hard and tough. Not flaky. Probably frozen. In fact all the sauces really taste from a bottle.
We get that there is a lot of bland taste people that live here but people go to Indian for the spice. Crank up the flavor.
Just bland bland bland. Restaurant needs a good cleaning dusting and maintenance. Nobody wants fake dusty plants at your eye level sitting next to you while u eat.
Wanted to like it. Just very dissapointed.
Prices are a bit high. 15.99 for chicken tikka marsala with a 'complimentary side of basmati' is a lot.
The ratings here are very generous. This wouldnt get a 3 in any major city.
Sorry to be so honest. Hopefully you can attend to some of the things that you do agree with i...
Read moreTucked away on the ground floor of a local motel, you'll find a delightful surprise: Namaste Restaurant. Don't let its humble location fool you; this place delivers a culinary journey that's both rich and wonderfully nuanced. On this occasion we ordered delivery; Garlic Naan, Vegetable Samosa, Chicken Vindaloo, and vegetable Tikka Masala
From the outset, the samosas were a hit, cooked to perfection with just the right hint of spice to tease the taste buds. The chicken vindaloo was a revelation. It managed to balance spice without drowning out the rest of the aroma and flavors. The chicken was tender and succulent, and overwhelmingly fresh. And the vegetable tikka masala? It's a symphony of flavors with every bite, from the perfectly cooked potatoes to the zest of fresh ginger and cardamom. Lastly, the garlic naan – always an essential accompaniment for an occasion like this – did it's job adeptly with no complaints.
Now, I'll be honest. My first visit to Namaste during the pandemic wasn't exactly a home run. But these are unprecedented times, with every eatery facing challenges. So, I decided to give them another shot and boy, am I glad I did. Judging a place when they're just trying to navigate a global crisis doesn't give the full picture. And now, having tasted what they truly have to offer, I can confidently say Namaste might be the best Indian cuisine I've had in years.
Whether you're in the mood for Indian, Nepalese, or even Bhutanese specialties like their momo, this place has you covered. With everything from noodle dishes to tandoori chicken on offer, there's something to satiate every palate.
Namaste Restaurant in Lancaster, PA is an unassuming gem that deserves a spot on everyone's list. We'll certainly be...
