They must have recently had a change in management since, within the past 4 months, they have gone downhill.
Firstly, when we entered we asked for both regular menus and all you can eat menus. We were then told that we could only do one or the either, not both. This was never the case in the past.
Secondly, the cups had mildew growing on the outside of them. Specifically around the top of the glass where the ‘coca cola’ label is. This is due to them not letting the cups dry completely and when stacked, the water becomes sealed in and grows bacteria/mold. Massive health hazard considering the insides of the cups absolutely have mold spores that aren’t detectable without fancy equipment.
Thirdly, my friend got the katsu dish and the pork was bone dry. It literally had no fat left on the meat presumably due to the deep fry oil being too hot. Truly disappointing. The sushi was nothing special but that is to be expected. Be warned that for the rolls, it’s 6 pieces and for the sashimi, it’s 1. Prices were $6.50 and $3, respectively. The miso soup was also about average. Good, but not over the moon good.
Fourthly, the bathrooms have metal stalls in them, but the front door to the bathroom is purposely stuck open. Therefore the dining area can glance into the bathroom and see the stalls. Extremely uncomfortable to do your business and I’m not confident how sanitary it is considering how easily bacterial pathogens disperse. Let alone the fact that there’s no longer a big physical barrier decreasing said dispersion.
Lastly, the service was not the greatest. 1) Our waiter put soy sauce dishes on the top of our menus as we were looking at them. 2) They stepped on our feet and their shirt touched our water glasses when they leaned over to put down our food. 3) We were given incorrect dishes that we did not order. Overall, we used to adore this restaurant very much since the prices were fair for the quality of the food. The food itself was mediocre, but in the past it has been above average. Definitely will not be going back nor recommending it again after this experience. The picture was also the lovely cherry on top that has no reflection of the restaurant itself. Our one fortune cookie had no fortune. It was also the only...
Read moreThis is a three star review simply because the Smoke Salmon and Yellowtail Jalapeno appetizers were great.
My wife instantly noticed that the music playing when we walked in was a piano cover of a Harry Potter track. The entire music choice was piano pops, which was weirdly uncomfortable at a sushi restaurant. It wouldn't be that big of a deal aside from the fact that the entire place was practically silent. I could see my food being prepared and the chef did it all without making a sound (except for the microwave). This place has zero energy.
We ordered other rolls, and I genuinely don't remember most of them - they were quite surprisingly bland after the strong appetizers. The spicy tuna roll wasn't spicy. The Godzilla roll had huge chunks of crab stick on top. Crab stick isn't attractive.
Also, the "all-you-can-eat" option is a strange paradox - it's absurdly cheap, but they threaten a "surcharge" if you don't eat everything you're given, and this cost isn't explicitly listed. Why not just raise the price of the special itself? You could easily charge up to $35-40 for that kind of thing and people would pay it if they weren't made to worry about not clearing their plates.
Advice to the owner: Please inject some energy into you restaurant, and go outside of the box when it comes to the menu. People who love sushi will pay! Also, your...
Read moreI'm on the fence about this place, leaning toward not returning. The food was fresh and well made, and the environment was clean.
The downer side is that I've never had sushi with more rice in it in my life. I've eaten many sushi buffets before and usually have no trouble downing 24-30 pieces of sushi. Here I barely managed 20. I had no idea how thick this restaurant rolled their maki. I'm seriously talking 2-3 times as much rice as anywhere else I've ever been. It was decent...possibly even "good", but to be honest, the taste of the featured ingredients in each roll were drown out by how much rice was used. On top of this, the saucers used for soy sauce/wasabi were far too small for the size of the rolls.
I assume the overuse of rice is a cost-saving measure, but it was honestly disappointing. The staff were friendly but somewhat inattentive. I had to ask for a refill of water after we had probably been there 40 minutes and it had probably been 10 minutes since we had last had the server check in on us.
The rolls and sushi were made fresh which is definitely a plus when compared to many sushi buffets, but I think it would benefit them to raise the price for lunch buffet to 14.99 if it would mean more meat and less rice.
I don't think I'll be going back. I was full way too quickly because of all the rice and ended up with a...
