Harper's Restaurant & Brew Pub — Restaurant in East Lansing

If I could give this 0 stars, I would. I’ve been to Harper’s hundreds of times, and as an alum I know what to expect. Hopped over to Harper’s over the weekend after the Graduate bar and came to find the bathrooms flooded. Toilet paper and dirty water covered the womens bathroom, some stalls past your ankles. The smell was horrendous. Plumbing issues happen though, and I get that. I’ve never seen it there, but sometimes it happens. I asked to speak to a manager to bring it to their attention and I have never seen worse service. The girl that approached me immediately had an attitude, and when I told her of the sewage and flooding, her response was “it’s a college bar, what do you expect?” With a snappy, rude tone. Appalled, I told her I was shocked they wouldn’t address it especially considering they made national headlines for unsanitary practices and were shut down for months over it. I’d think they’d want to work on their reputation and address toilet paper and sewage flooding. Her response was “what’re you going to do about it? if you don’t like it then you can leave.”

I understand staffing shortages, plumbing issues and the recklessness drunk people bring. But to treat a customer like that and neglect cleanliness of bathrooms and tell someone to leave is despicable. That is no manager and I’d be ashamed to have someone like that representing...

We would not go back to this place if we were in the area again. We went on football Saturday.

The music was so loud, we had to sit outside. The wait staff were in not quick at all. We ordered some Cokes and our waitress brought them in 6 oz glasses. Luckily we placed our order when she brought the drinks. 15 minutes later, my wife's meal and appetizers showed up. The rest of the table two salads and a burger took 15 minutes longer. We had to request napkins and silverware. We also asked for refills of Cokes. (they never showed up) Salads had no dressing, no catsup delivered for the fries. One of our party went into the kitchen to get dressing for the salads - took 5 minutes. Finally I went in to get refills and saw our waitress just swamped with tables and other things. She brought out the refills after we were done with lunch. Walked in to pay the bill and had to wait 5 minutes more while two other servers were in running their tabs.

This place needs to change their approach. Have waiters just take orders and handle drinks. Have servers...

The well drinks give me heartburn and the bar is poorly laid out. It's a great place to go out to drink and dance, but as a restaurant/brewery it is lacking. The service and food I had today was subpar. I waited about 45 minutes for a reuben and onion rings (which I love from Harper's and it usually comes out very quickly). The cheese wasn't melted, the toast was burnt and there was almost no meat on the sandwich. I am confused by this drastic change in standards, particularly when there were less than 15 seated tables at the time I ordered. Also, we ordered mozzarella sticks and were told they were being put in the fryer right away because the cook had forgetten about them. I was super excited for hot fresh melty cheese, but they came out room temp and tasted very off... Not sure how that is possible if they were supposedly just fried. It was a terrible experience and really ruined my previously positive...
