There is machine of death made my humanity more adept at the taking of life than the contemporary clock. Each day, the clock kills twenty-four hours, slays one thousand four hundred forty seconds, and strangles thirty four thousand five hundred and sixty seconds.
There is no magnanimous energy to these slayings, chalking each moment’s death on a clear and cold ledger. This clock chimes out when the remains of enough uncultivated moments have accumulated to ring its bells and to push the lives of those who follow it from building to building.
