I always go here for grinders whenever I am in DT Niantic area. The grinders are ALWAYS CONSISTENTLY GREAT. The bread is FRESH & pillowy soft but with a slight chew to the crust so it holds up to the sauces or oil & vinegar. There’s always plenty of protein & veggies. The staff are prompt, responsive, polite, friendly, helpful & efficient. I tend to order a small turkey, provolone LTMOP, with a bit of spicy mustard. They cook most of their meats IN HOUSE EVERY AM. They also use fresh veggies in all their menu items! shredded Iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, white onion, dill pickles, peppers etc. The SMALL sub is a LARGE anywhere else. I had chicken salad today & I am pretty picky about chicken salad. It was shredded white meat chicken breast. It was EXCELLENT. It’s CLEAN TOO. There were no empty plates or trash anywhere. It’s a sub shop fer cryin out loud. It’s not Daniel in NYC. The staff work extremely hard to get orders out to everyone in a timely fashion: constantly multitasking orders. The grinders here are ALWAYS DELISH & the staff...
Read moreStopped by for the 1st time today 8/30/17 and got a lrg Italian and lrg Turkey. Wow, if I had known the sizes before hand I would have ordered small grinders lol. I also made the mistake of not asking for a total or price for the grinders (my mistake NOT HGG). I'm used to paying up to $12-$13 for premium local grinders. $16 for the lrg Turkey and $17 for the lrg Italian. WOW!! That is a lof of money $35 for 2 grinders, but you get 2 of the BIGGEST grinders I have EVER seen, hands down, stuffed with meat and made just how you want it. When I got there I was so surprised with the size that I actually told the guy, I've never seen grinders this big. He asked if it was my 1st time, to which I replied yes. He gave me 2 bags of Deep River chips for free as a 1st time customer, that was really big for me bacause $35 for 2 grinders was hard to swallow, the free chips ($4 or so value) really made it that much better of a deal.
I loved my Italian, my wife enjoyed the turkey for the most...
Read moreI'm originally from the Delaware Valley - the NJ and PA area - where grinders (aka hoagies or subs) are great. Now I live in east central VT and there is a place just off I-89 (exit 3 for interested travelers) called McCullough's Quick Stop which makes an excellent grinder/sub/hoagie. But let me tell you, the Hartford Giant Grinder shop is THE ONE to beat! It's been three long years since I "discovered" it during a vacation in Niantic, but I still dream about the Italian grinder that the owner made for me. No, it wasn't the ocean air or the lovely people who served me - it was simply the best Italian sandwich I've ever had. And when I returned for "one to go" on our way home, the smiling young woman who served me remains in my memory like a dream goddess. I've kept their business card and often tell my wife we should make the 4 - 5 hour drive "for lunch," or that we should move to the Niantic area. I wonder if...
