We went for supper after work as we have for almost 2 yrs now at the local diner and was disappointed with all the changes that have been made. For example I do not want to be handed a menu that looks like a book that i have to page and read thru. The food options are ok, however they took several things off the menu like the Pittsburgh steak salad which is hard to find in the York area and was deliciously made and reasonably priced by previous owners. We ordered the cheeseburger subs and fries which were the same quality as the previous owners had. Waitress was attentive, friendly and polite as she has always been. When we went to pay our bill the owner asked how everything was I expressed that we were a bit disappointed with the huge menu changes and no longer serving some of the items on their menu as well as the kios sign that would go through the specials of the day going across it, that was displayed in the front window and could be seen outside the restaurant. The new owners response was in frustration stating that it is 2023 and under new management and pointed to the sign lit up inside the restaurant that can not be seen from outside the restaurant and said there is the daily specials. Which now hangs were the chalkboard use to hang, that had hand written specials of the day written by the waitresses. The owner finished ringing up our bill, we wished the owner a good evening and hope they do well and left. We got to the car and we discovered looking over our receipt that the owner charged the tip to the card without asking if we wanted to leave a tip, for us we always leave a cash tip at the table. So we went back in a talked to the owner and at first he denied that he charged the card the tip, til he pulled out our receipt that is kept by the establishment and realized he did charge our card, however, as he was looking through the receipt he made the statement that it was the previous customer that he charged their card for the tip not ours, til he found our receipt and realized he did charge the tip on our card. He tried to refund the tip only, several times, however the credit card machine would not allow him to do the refund, he became frustrated and his way of fixing it was he popped the drawer and just refunded the $5 in cash and sent us on our way without an apology for his mistake and that he would fix the mistake on the credit card later. I get change, however, an owner should be polite, professional and willing to listen to their customers good or bad and should not be dismissed because of expressing ones opinion when asked. He appeared to not be knowledgeable of his systems software on his credit card machine. I guess that's what a college education gives you, bright lights, technology and no brains. The quality of the food was appetizing, a bit more pricey than before and the lack of customer service(attitude) from the owner. After this experience, not sure we will go back. I would not recommend unless you check your receipt before leaving for any mistakes and be prepared for lack of customer service from owner. All our pasted experiences at the diner were pleasant ones from dining in or calling our order in to pick up with no issues checking out at the register or being overcharged from previous owners. Being overcharged can be a simple oversight, however to not communicate about the tip charge, deny or become unprofessional is not acceptable in the response and with no apology...
Read moreThe server was busy, so the hostess took my drink order and delivered my coffee and water with 3 lemons. She came back a few minutes later after my order still hadn't been taken. I was polite and ordered eggs over medium, hashbrowns crispy with onions, rye toast and sausage links. First time my eggs came out over easy and had runny whites with homefries lightly cooked with onions and everything else was correct. I sent that plate back and had them fix it. This time the eggs came out over easy and I still had home fries this time they were crispy with onions which was still not what I ordered. So I sent it back a third time, a man who appeared to be the owner or manager brought out my food and just dropped off my plate and walked aways. This time the eggs came out still over easy, but I now had hashbrowns with onions but they were lightly cooked. I explained to the hostess who took my order that i didnt mind if it took longer than usual to get crispy hashbrowns and eggs over medium, that i would wait. The same man brought out what is now my 4th plate and this time when my eggs came out, they were over well and I did not have my sausage this time. So I was little disappointed but tried not to show it. As I called over the hostess and explained that i would just pick at my hashbrowns the man then came over and decided to tell me "look at all of these people, I have satisfied them. You are just being difficult" with a huge attitude when I was not even being rude from the beginning. I have never once been treated like this from an owner or manager of a restaurant. The hostess was apologetic and the server did eventually come over, but I ended up walking out in tears because of the complete disrespect I was given when all I was asking for was my whites to be cooked and my yolk to be dippy (not asking too much in my opinion). I will give that restaurant another try because I haven't had a bad experience there before and never had an issue with my food before, but it may be a while before I go back. Everyone has bad days, but I didn't cause a scene, throw anything, scream, yell, curse or anything else that would have even remotely given this man a reason to talk to...
Read moreI attempted to take my laptop to go to a diner, normally a place where you would think you could hang out for awhile to work on a website in a quiet environment since Starbucks and other local cafes are closed because of COVID. I mean there is WIFI, why do they even have it for customers if it's not a selling feature. I was only in there one time before and I was one of the only customers. Why would a business not want to make their space available for all the previous Starbucks customers with nowhere to sit down and work while they buy food/coffee etc. I am beyond upset, that I walked in, confirmed there was WIFI and said I would be buying coffee and food, and explained Starbucks was no longer open on the inside/just wanted a quiet place to work while buying things at the same time, in other words not the same as a bum who sits around and loiters and makes the place look bad. The kid at the front went to the back and asked if I could do what I wanted to do and came out and refused me. Unbelievable! I've never been turned away. And the place is called a Cafe of all things. Please change your name if you don't want customers to show up and assume they are going somewhere where they are capable to work on their laptop while eating. Unbelievable. I've been to diners before and no one had a problem with this. To top it off, the kid came back out and made an excuse about not having space. There were literally no customers in the whole place! This place normally has 1-2 or two customers, I've never seen the place packed, and I showed up 4 hours before the place closed, as if I would be loitering all day...I also tip 30 or 40% so I guess someone missed out on one of their most profitable tips of the day. Such a shame. Shouldn't a place like this in a small community be a gathering place too? Very, very disappointed...
