Simple food. We went during lunch on a Wednesday. No one was there except 2 people who were almost done around 12. The restaurant is nice and small with a beautiful wood fire as you walk in. Previous reviews are fantastic so I was eager to try. We were not met with the same eagerness. We entered an empty restaurant except for the older couple. When someone did come to the wait to be seated sign she was on the phone. No welcome. She quickly winked us over to a table as she took a reservation. Handed our waiter the menus who sat us. He didnt talk much at all. " What can I get you to drink, What can I get you, What side?" Was the extent of pleasantries. Since I ordered the appetizers to try apparently he only heard the second thing I ordered not the first. When we ordered the lunch specials he heard my main dish but not the upgraded version. It was not loud inside. We received our food in a decent amount of time. But it did seem like a long lunch and drinks were empty for some time before our waiter would emerge from the back. The breading on the steak was cooked perfect. I just wished I could of tried the upgraded Napolitano version. It was just breaded steak and a salad did not mix well with it. Even though both were very good. The Churrasco steak was tasty like most grilled steak is. If you like natural flavors it is yum. If you like it spiced up it will be bland. Black beans were flavorful and with meat. Just could of did without the actual fat. Empanada ham and cheese was cooked perfect but added sauce was not really needed and did not enhance the flavor that much. "Can I do anything else for you". Kinda weird statement but we asked for check. A handheld pos machine was presented that printed a receipt. Even though I was getting my purse out to pay he handed my other half the check. He looked at it briefly to make sure we werent charges the extras we ordered but werent given. No we did not complain because we were full but it would of been nice to review more of the food. Compliments to the chef. "Is everything alright" he asked. My other half felt it needed to explain why he was looking at it. And the waiter said "you should of told me" but it was ok. " She didnt tell me you wanted an appetizer and I thought it was strange she got one and you didnt" uhhh, Im right here and not only did I order his app first and my own food which was not upgraded, I am the one holding the credit card. Which he gladly took from me but gave the handheld apparatus to my other half! He turned away and said it was my card. Really?? Either he was hitting on my other half or he hates woman who hold their own or just rude. Luckily I always tip well but he was only getting 20% and really that should just go to the chef. The woman who was on the phone before waited on one couple that came in as we were leaving. Had a wonderful welcome, explained the menu, and had conversation with them as valued customers in Spanish. Which I speak enough of to understand we were not as valued especially me. We enjoyed the food to a degree but it can be made at home or other south american restaurants that are less dismissive. I also thouroughly enjoyed the delivery man trying to get paid in the back of the restaurant. And I cant figure out what weird wire was sticking out of the wall above our table. Little things in this restaurant are cute but not everything. And I noticed a special table in front of the wood fire stove was available and could made the experience noteworthy but it was not offered. Again not busy. I can see why if lunch is not desired by staff. More like their private time. I enjoy food authentically made and because of service and presentation I will not be back. But dont avoid because of one waiter. Food is good. Maybe if it is here still in a few years after a few seasons I will try again. Outside seating is a plus, no pets, and reservations are preferred according to website. No wifi and delivers through food delivery services. Prices are not bad and has meals for two at dinner that would be interesting to try....
Read moreLove the casual atmosphere of Martin Fierro's. The menu is packed with options & a small outside seating area if you want wine & fresh air.
He had a NY strip that rivaled a James Beard restaurant. Pefectly cooked to mid rare on an open wood fire grill even came with a side of his choosing.
The wine selection was tasty, most glasses $8 but South American wine is quite good & very affordable.
Unfortunately, our experience did not end well due to an apathetic server, I'm pretty sure was new.
I ordered cerviche, confident that since this was a South American restaurant, it would be done properly and it was. The first bite I took of the shrimp was heavenly.
The problem was, the cerviche has an option to add squid & octopus. I emphatically told the server no octopus. No mix.
When the plate arrived, I asked the server what were the things I didn't recognize and the response was " I don't know. I don't eat cerviche". Okee dokey...
By the time I realized, the brown bits weren't roasted garlic & picked through finding squid, it was too late.
I only ate one tiny bite but the one time I tried octopus before, I got violently ill so, within bout 20 min I was sick in Martin Fierro's restroom and... All night long. I slept in the bathtub. Compiled with a 2 hour drive in the morning, not my best day.
Here's the thing, all the server had to do was ask the kitchen or another staff member what was in the cerviche. Instead it wasn't until I told her to take it away that a manager offered to make a new dish, citing kitchen mistake. Between you & me, doubt the kitchen made a mistake.
I've worked hospitality half my life. The kitchen gets a ticket telling them what to make according to what the server charged for. A restaurant would lose money making upgraded dishes & not charging.
Even after all that, I'd still go back bc what we did have was delicious. I'd just stick to the cooked side of the menu & items I know. Also, hope our server got some...
Read moreWe had a bad experience here... my review exceeds the character limit to post. Inquire and I’d be happy to indulge. Here are the highlights: Waitress missed drink orders Served half a pitcher of beer, was told beer did not run out but staff was not allowed to change the taps (Ok?) Appetizer served incomplete, cheese had firmed up by the time the rest was served Empanadas were served luke warm / room temp Parrilladas Surf & Turf was missing the scallops (which were not served to us), Beef rib completely fatty and chewy with no piece or even slice of straight beef, churrasco steak had zero flavor and was the size of 2 fingers, shrimp was chargrilled and tough, trout was ok but boney Staff could not get giftcards to work and I was told to come in tomorrow for a new one. In lieu of crediting bill or comping items to accommodate the inability to use the gift card, I was told no adjustments could be made (even though they adjusted our half pitcher) and that the bill was due in full and I’d have to use the giftcard another day. This digressed into suggesting we leave the giftcard as a tip so that we don’t have to come back and the waitress insulting my wife and kids (who had nothing to do with it) and yelling at us in front of other diners as we left. Not once did we raise our voice... we offered and asked for numerous solutions, and were given ZERO options. So we put it on Martin Fierro to make it right which they wouldn’t (and the waitress knew this)
OVERRATED, OVERCOOKED, OVERPRICED
Completely unprofessional and poorly run. There are too many local establishments in Naples to waste your time and money for this experience at Martin Fierro. You’ll get better cuts of meat, properly cooked, for better value, service, and atmosphere elsewhere.
I sincerely do...
