I really, really wanted this to be a great brunch. I was looking forward to spending time with my Mom. We spent time together, for sure, as it seemed our order was forgotten and that was after the long time it took to get our order in. The food was pretty bad; it was bulk ordered generic cafeteria food that is plated to look okay, but the hashbrowns and home fries weren't cooked through and the food was almost entirely cold, indicating that it was indeed forgotten then thrown in a microwave to be quickly reheated, but not thoroughly enough to make up for the already undercooked food. The reheating led to the eggs being over cooked.
You could easily go buy better quality bulk pre-made everything and some eggs at Costco, or even Walmart, and just make these plates at home. Would they be as nice? Possibly not, but you'll get properly cooked food that won't give you and your dining companions diarrhea.
The servers were polite but seemed scattered and spent a lot of time talking to a group on the other side of the room and each other more than paying attention to the food. The look of the place isn't bad, but I think The Hungry Moose is more inviting by comparison. It definitely makes it clear you're in an overpriced diner. The atmosphere over at Garden Street Cafe may not be as fancy, but they'll at least cook your food thoroughly. Parking is about as difficult there as here ironically. And though I think they tried because it's a new building, I can't imagine getting a wheelchair or even a walker through this place. You'd probably be asked to sit outside because there's no way to navigate around the table layout. Overall, disappointing, especially for the...
Read moreWent here because a family recommended since I’m from out of town. We were sat at the bar because there was a wait but open seating for bar area. We sat in front of this odd contraption behind the bar attached to the wall so not invasive just unique looking only to find out it was to make fresh squeezed orange juice which we ordered and enjoyed a fun presentation along with it. Our server was Brooklyn and she was fun, friendly and upbeat. She was patient with our questions and made suggestions and recommendations. The food was delicious! I ordered the cluck cluck which was hash browns topped with fried chicken that was perfectly cooked and I liked that the breading wasn’t super thick and well seasoned, I chose scrambled eggs and it was topped with their gravy and came with a bread choice and I chose biscuits and gravy. Everything was perfectly seasoned and cooked perfectly. I would say I am picky about my hash browns and would say they could have used more seasoning but still delicious. My guest had the breakfast option with eggs meat and voice of bread and she chose the blueberry pancakes which were absolute perfection with the right amount of fluff the berries tasted fresh and juicy and the syrup was sweet but not too sweet. We really enjoyed the whole experience and will definitely send more recommendations to have family and friends dine here. Thank you Brooklyn for the great service...
Read moreReviews speak for themselves. WHAT YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW: The husband & wife co-owners have had previous success, experience in the restaurant business (Red Apple Family Restaurant in Sullivan). They're bringing that knowledge & service to US in East Peoria.
The coffee is as good as it can be without being roasted in-house. I approve. 👍🏻 Everything on the menu is delicious, and obviously, breakfast is where they shine. There's something for everyone, from sweet to savory, even a few vegan items.
Coming to this café is sometimes the very best part of my day! They're just that good. I always feel welcome & appreciated. It's true, the food isn't the cheapest around. It isn't. You can go next door & save $2. But you won't receive the QUALITY & QUANTITY you get at Eggcellent Café, not even close. This is easily the best breakfast restaurant in East Peoria, probably the best for 20+ miles in any given direction. I would know. I have been to most. It's One World level good, but thankfully cheaper. It's 'kind of like' Le Peep, but a more cozy & down-home atmosphere & a much better location. And let me tell you - - if you leave hungry it's your own damn fault.
Co-owners Tim & Bessa Halili work here, live here, & they're here to stay. Open daily from 7AM-3PM. If you like breakfast food that actually has flavor....you really need to stop in to Eggcellent Café. It's the restaurant East Peoria...
