UPDATE January 22, 2020
I continue to appreciate and patronize this small but very special restaurant. The food quality continues to be of highest concern to Rosa and the staff . They continually work on the fundamentals, improving the broth and sauces. Ingredients are fresh and delicious, including fresh vermicelli and veggies. I'd like to mention the grilled meats and marinades, which are their own, including chicken and pork. These meals entirely compliment their offerings and add variety and interest to the menu. These offerings provide more choices if you want more than soup or a sandwich. Allow extra time around lunchtime as the restaurant is busy and the staff is pressed to keep up. All meals are made to order here. They struggle with prices of the fresh ingredients. They do not want to compromise quality and do not offer price leaders to entice customers. Please be patient with any price adjustments (rerely) You are receiving their best food every visit . Please consider coming here for luncheon or a casual family affair.
UPDATE October 30, 2018
The weather has cooled off and it's time for some soup offerings!
I ordered the Viet Noodle Beef Stew (hu tieu bo kho). This hearty beef stew soup is a delicious Viet adaptation of an American classic cold weather favorite! Large chunks of beef, marinated overnight and slow stewed for tenderness and maximum flavor with carrots and onions and that fabulous broth seasoned with lemon grass. I had vermicelli, but you can also order it with bread or rice. Also comes with the usual flavorable sides of jalapeno, lime, sprouts and Thai basil.
This is a substantial bowl of soup, so do come hungry.
Service was charming and up to its usual high standards.
There are some new offerings and a new menu board which is easier to read.
Do not be put off by your lack of familiarity with this cuisine. The owners enjoy explaining their offerings and take pride in their fresh offerings and entirely authentic approach!
Recommended without any reservations at all. Baguette Bistro has developed a faithful following and continues to improve and impress.
Second visit. I ordered the pork with vermicell, spring rolls and strawberry tea.
The spring rolls were hand made with generous portions of veggies and shrimp. Especially liked the dipping sauce. The pork with vermicelli was good, especially the noodles and veggies. The pork was fried and crispy and not overly salty but lacked distinct taste like bacon or pork roll. Portion sizes were very adequate. I did not particularly like the tea. It lacked strawberry flavor.
Service time is improving. I waited 12 minutes for the pork with vermicelli. The tea and spring rolls arrived in under 10 minutes. The servers are entirely charming.
I encourage you to give this new restaurant a try. East Windsor has waited a while for...
Read moreDon’t order from the photo off their menu from google here. I ordered using it and the item codes were correct , but the prices were grossly inflated. Item on the menu for a banhmi sandwich which used to be $5 is now $9 and their pho noodle soup which show $8 is now $15. I brought it to managements attention when I went to pick up the order and it didn’t even phase them, and just gave me a abrupt, “we are sorry for the inconvenience”, but didn’t do anything to correct the issue. I believe they know what they are doing by leaving the old price menu there and not reporting it to be removed. I was expecting to pay $52 for the order which came out to $87. On top of that, the amount of meat in both their sandwiches and pho soup were 2/3 the portions from before. Never going back as it is like going to a place and paying $19 dollars for a one patty burger, way over priced and half the value. Bad business and not the way to bait and switch to make up for lost revenue during this pandemic times. You lost me as a future customer and I rather go to the many places in Edison for a better quality Vietnamese food at reasonable prices. I was your first customer ever back over 2 years ago when you had a soft opening. Gave a favorable review because of the taste, but this business practice is unacceptable.
Updated in response to owners response to my posted review. Unfortunately what you are stating is not true. Bryan E, who was the manager on duty, did not state anything you stated in your response and it was simply a incompassionate "sorry for the inconvenience", that was it. Stop being defensive and just accept that your business has been called out as I see it. So if the menu was from three years ago. Have you done anything to have it removed in the last three years?? There are a few pictures of that same menu, but no recent pictures is there?! Stop the bad business practice of over charging for subquality food and do the right thing. Let's see if it gets removed. Today is...
Read moreWe were craving some good pho and banh mi sandwiches and came across Baguette Bistro in East Windsor. We ordered the grilled lemongrass chicken banh mi, lemongrass beef banh mi, pho ga (chicken pho), and the pho nam (beef brisket). The food was delicious and reminded me of the great vietnamese places that I've eaten in in New York. The baguettes have that crispy exterior and soft doughy center baked to perfection. As written on their menu, each sandwich comes with crisp fresh vegetables- cucumber, pickled carrots, cilantro and jalapeno chili peppers. They are careful to not waste food, so they ask that you let them know exactly which of these extras you want to include. (We personally love pickled daikon on our banh mi's as well, but not sure if that is an extra on their menu?) Both pho's came in big bowls, the broth had really great flavor, the meat especially the brisket was tender, and there was a large portion of cilantro, basil, lime, bean sprouts, jalapeno, onion and scallion. It is a perfect meal in itself, but having a crispy banh mi with the pho definitely hit the spot!! (Plus the prices are great and the portions are enough to have leftovers! What more could you ask for?)
The staff was attentive and polite when I placed my order. They answered my questions and also offered additional hoisin packets, sriracha packets and chili paste- which added an extra kick that we love to the pho. They do a great job with customer service and with following precautions on site- using gloves, masks as well as plexiglass screens at the counter. You won't be disappointed. We can't wait to go back to try other things...
