Nauset Ice Cream — Restaurant in Eastham

Kind of a frustrating experience.

First, the positives: the staff here were lovely. They were absolutely jammed when I went, with a line out the door, and they were still super friendly and patient, so immense kudos to them. The wait time did not factor into my review because that's pointless to me—the staff moved as quickly as they could. The price was reasonable and the portions were generous.

Neutral: the shop is designed like an old-fashioned ice cream parlor, which is charming, but it was quite dark inside. Almost hard to see.

Now, the negatives: I purposely went here seeking a couple of flavors that were advertised on their website, but conveniently those couple of flavors were the only ones that weren't available. The ice cream itself was super soft and my cone had to be placed in a cup. I recognize because they're so busy they may have had a problem keeping the ice cream hard, but I do think the shop should invest more in colder blast freezers if they know this is an issue. (The staff were closing the doors immediately after scooping, so I'm not placing the blame on them.) Lastly, and most critically, the ice cream just wasn't good. Ice cream is fantastic. We have come here for years but haven't been here in a long time. Visited today around 8:30ish which is when most ice cream around this part of the cape start prepping to close. The family was happy that they close at 10 so I ventured out for some post dinner desserts.

Quite frankly, customer service is terrible much worse than I remembered. I waited in line as the attendants took everyone else on the store including those behind me. I stood there when everyone has their ice cream and all of the attendants just looked busy cleaning. Finally after about 2 minutes one person looked up from cleaning and asked if I was being helped and I finally got service. I love this place for ice cream good quality stuff lots of different flavors and the people are always really nice. With their Covid-19 configuration it's a little bit difficult but they still get the job done. very rigorous enforcement of social distancing and all that good stuff however I can say firsthand that social distancing amongst the kids that work there is pretty low so sometimes it seems a bit ironic when the person is telling you to stand here move there but then they're all about a foot away from each other.
