My father and I drove into Easthampton, Mass. from Cleveland, Ohio to visit some relatives the other day. When we visited my aunt, we decided to go out to eat. My father said that he wanted to go to a place with really good fried scallops, so my aunt suggested this place since her boyfriend always gets the fried scallops when they go.
When we arrived, there was nobody to greet and seat, so we just seated ourselves and waited for a server. Not long after, a man came out from the kitchen and took our food and drink order. He also appeared to be a cook too. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure they don't have a dedicated server. They just operate on a very small staff and whoever can take the order takes the order...but let me get back on track.
We all picked our drinks and I ended up ordering a small pizza with pepperoni, mushroom, and double cheese and a side of ranch while my father ordered a scallop dinner and my aunt and cousin ordered small chicken salads. After about 15 minutes, we still did not get our drinks. As a matter of fact, we didn't get our drinks until about 30 minutes later, which was when the food was actually done. Mind you, it wasn't busy, so I can only assume that this is just how the business regularly operates.
Anyway, all of the food was definitely fresh and hot. I didn't have my ranch yet, but I just figured the "server" still had yet to get it so I waited for a moment until I realized he wasn't coming back. Therefore, I went to the register, got a ranch cup, came back and took a bite of my pizza. My first thoughts were that the dough tasted bland and it seemed like something was missing. Since they place their toppings under the cheese, I peeled it back and found that there were no mushrooms on the pizza whatsoever. I also realized that there definitely wasn't double cheese on the pizza. I work in the business, so I know what double cheese is and even though the portion amounts vary depending on the place, it wasn't even close to double cheese. Now either they forgot to make it with double cheese or they purposely put the cheese on top to give the illusion of double cheese, which is why I initially didn't realize it didn't have double cheese. (Yes, there are places that really do that. Like I said, I work in the business and have worked at places that have done so.) To make matters worse, there was hardly any sauce on the pizza as well. On top of that, my cousin found a hair in one of her salad dressing cups. Nonetheless, we said nothing about it and I didn't bother saying anything about my food as I had no desire to wait for another pizza while everyone else ate and it still tasted decent enough, so I just continued eating.
Meanwhile, we all chatted while we ate so took our time and enjoyed the meal. Despite that, we were not visited by the "server" once to ask if everything was correct, if we need refills, or how the food was, which reinforces my belief about how they operate.
Bottom line is, other than the food being hot and the few staff members there being seemingly friendly (I say seemingly, because they barely interacted with you.), I was not satisfied with this place and those are the reasons why. Furthermore, if a place is going to offer dine-in as an option, they either need to strictly provide tables and chairs and have people pick up their food from the counter like a fast food restaurant or you need to make a full commitment to the service dine-in experience. Don't offer "half" the experience with the same prices as a service restaurant so you can cut business costs and turn more of a profit. Doing so will eventually bite you in the end.
With all that said, at this point in time, I definitely would NOT recommend dining in at this establishment However, it might be worth your while for the carryout. I didn't care for my food for reasons stated, but my relatives enjoyed their food and I also hear that the grinders are...
Read moreI was in town recently visiting friends and relatives and came here with a group. What a terrible experience. They completely messed up the order and were rude about fixing it and making things right. We were patient and tried to make the best of it at first but we soon discovered the food wasn't very good either. I said "OK, that's it" and took the lead by saying we were going to a better place down the street (begins with an "N" and is a landmark Italian place on Cottage St) where we had an excellent meal with outstanding service. We should have went there to begin with!
I think the PH owners and staff were surprised we would just leave like that after paying for all the food and drinks but I was picking up the tab and really didn't care. The owners/managers of this establishment are rude, shortsighted, and really shouldn't be in a service industry where they have to deal with the public. Everyone from the group was unanimous in deciding they would never order food or go here to eat again. If I could give negative stars this place would be rated...
Read moreI'm a bit of a snobby chef who's traveled all over so I love checking out little places here and there and this totally fit the bill. Some pizza shop on route to where I needed to go attached to a liquor store. Tired and mid snow storm I dropped in (still in my chef's uniform) carrying my laptop and kitchen backpack, covered with food from working to grab a bite before continuing on. The beverage prices were a bit high which was off-putting but an older gentleman who worked there really seemed to love and understand pizza and gestured where I could sit after quickly taking my order with pencil and paper. The pizza was completely different from what most chains do out here and totally reminded me of Buffalo again. I was so happy just eating pizza that complex and yummy again sitting at a snowstorm looking out the window at the traffic thinking about where I needed to go next. If I lived closer that'd probably be my...
