Pleasantly Surprised! I was really looking forward to a crab cake sandwich from somewhere, but after giving up on finding a place, I decided to try Governor's Pub and boy am I glad I did! I ordered the Fish and Chips and was pleasantly surprised that the fish was cod! I was expecting catfish or flounder (which I'm not crazy about) so to get a nice piece of cod was wonderful. It was cooked to perfection and the fires were really different, but really good, however the best part of the meal was the coleslaw! Many times coleslaw is just something you eat, but not really something you just go crazy about, but this was the bomb! I've never had cole slaw with a kick to it and I grew up shrimping and crabbing in Florida, so I know what I'm talking about! I've had more slaw than a posssum's been in a dumpster! I'd have to say that was the best dang slaw I've ever had! Service was great and price was reasonable for the food. My first trip to Edenton, NC and if I came back no doubt, I'd eat here again! This deserves a song. I'm thinking The Road Less Traveled!

This was a first visit for myself and a friend. We both ordered the hamburger steak special. The plate had a slice of Texas toast bread topped with mashed potatoes topped with hamburger steak topped with grilled onions and brown gravy. I loved this idea! It also came with a side of green beans. We both ordered sweet tea. The hamburger steak stack was all delicious! The green beans looked good BUT they had vinegar in them which almost ruined them. I put plenty of pepper on them but it barely made them tolerable. My friend didn't eat her green beans at all due to the vinegar. If they had used some liquid smoke it would have been perfect. The sweet tea was delicious!!! Our waitress was very good! They were busy for a Saturday afternoon with couples and families and some singles. I'll give them another chance but won't get green beans if they continue to put vinegar in them. They could offer it but shouldn't just put it in them. There were lots of TV screens with assorted sports on. They have a bar. The overall atmosphere was good.

Im in town a few times per year working at the hospital and love great pizza. I asked a few of the staff where a good spot for pizza was and they recommended Governors Pub. I was excited to see they had New York style thinner crust as this is my favorite style. I ordered a large 3 topping. Very disappointing , completely average , pretty much tasteless pizza. Very little toppings, maybe 15 pepperonis on the whole pizza. I also asked that the toppings and cheese be run out to the very edge of the pizza and the lady on the phone laughed a bit but said she would relay the message. Didn’t happen as you can see in the pic. Was expecting a bit more for $24 pizza. Don’t waste your $$

I paid my check in cash and the pub decided to not give me back my change. Although it was a small amount, it is my money and I expected my change. I did leave a tip and then I asked why I didn’t get my change back. They do that regularly from what they told me They said they asked if everything was Ok. I replied yes but I did not know that a yes reply meant that they could keep my change I have been to many restaurants in Edenton and have never experienced this. They also were not very nice about what my legitimate complaint was. Needless to say that Governors Pub has seen the last of me. I still can’t believe that this restaurant not only has this policy but they but they were quite rude when I asked for an explanation. Whenever I go to a restaurant anywhere, the check comes. I pay it and even if I get a penny back, I want that penny and then I will leave a tip. Apparently, Governors Pub doesn’t believe in giving change back… no matter how small it is. They just keep the change, which is thievery. I write this review only to warn others who this might happen to. Their attitude towards my complaint is what I thought about before writing this review and that attitude sucked. Before you decide to go to Governor’s Pub for a meal, think about what they did to me. I’m sure I am not the only one. I am just the one who got disgusted by both their attitude and the normalization of keeping my change. I abhor them to change their ridiculous wrong attitude towards their customers. I hope they see this comment on their restaurant as a learning experience. Although there are many better restaurants in Edenton, if you should go to Governors Pub, make sure you get your change. Don’t let them...

Ate their yesterday. Arrived right at 12pm as that's when they open. There were 4 in our party and we where told to sit anywhere. Atmosphere was OK and the server took our drink order right away. Several minutes later we all placed our orders. 55 minutes later we got our food and 2 orders out of the 4 where wrong. The two Reuben's were cold. Neither sandwich was grilled as I would expect but served on toast. The server apologized and took the one order back and brought out the correct order however it wasn't cooked the way one would expect. She, like myself, had ordered a Grilled Reuben with Pub Chips, she originally got a turkey and lettuce and I got a very small amount of cornbeef on toasted rye (not grilled) and my Reuben was the cornbeef, swiss cheese and deli mustard. The lady across from me that got the turkey told the server and the server brought her back a Rueben, again on toast, not grilled and there was no thousand island dressing on it. She offered to redo mine but after waiting almost an hour I was hungry and ate what she brought. No discount no nothing. Will never eat their again and any cook that doesn't know how to prepare a Grilled Reuben with swiss cheese, sauerkraut and thousand island dressing shouldn't be anywhere near a kitchen. Others sitting near us also complained to themselves and to us and am not sure if they complained to the server. Absolutely terrible service!!!!! One of the worst I've ever...

Will not return! We're new in town and could have chosen any of the four other open restaurants within a 5-minute walk. We waited a full hour (not felt like forever or 50 minutes but a full 60 minutes) for a single small pizza and one wing basket. After our food and drink order was taken, drinks were brought to our table, and we were not checked on again for 35 minutes. She refilled one drink and left us alone for 10 more minutes. Upon returning, she said our food would be another 12 to 14 minutes and mentioned that the kitchen had prioritized to-go orders over in-person orders. We then proceeded to watch four or five tables that came in more than 15 minutes after us (including a table that came in 35 minutes after us) be served their food by the other waitress. Our waitress was kind and slightly apologetic. Not sure if her or the kitchen or a combination messed up the tickets but we never should have waited that long and had those who came in after us served first. The fries in my husband's wing basket came out lukewarm and the taste of the food was average. Had our food been served much more timely and tables been served food in the correct order, it could have easily been a three or four-star experience. I have also never been anywhere that charges you a refill fee without noting it on the menu (who charges for a...
