Pelicana Chicken — Restaurant in Edgewater

I’m really being generous with the 2 stars because my experience was not only bad, but I was still hungry afterwords. This place was new, so I wanted to try it especially since fried chicken is my thing. First off it was my fault for even giving this place a shot. Anyone can look at the menu and see ten dollars for fries and close it. Absolutely not okay; a sandwich itself is 10 and they should come with fries but now you need to spend the price of another sandwich for them? Are you kidding me? I ended up spending 26 bucks and was still hungry because their ten dollar French fry portions are that of a vegetarian diet restaurant and I’m not dieting I am ordering fried chicken and fries I want a hearty meal. On top of that, the chicken was soggy and not even crispy. I actually waited a while to write this review because of how mad I was and felt I should cool down. Nope. Still equally as mad and will never EVER return. I can’t even list all of the bad things because the review would be too long. They don’t speak English, can’t understand me, and the order took way too long. They need to go back to the drawing board for this one because I highly recommend kfc, Popeyes, chick-f, Burger King, McDonald’s, you name it. Last time I visited a Pelicana location was in NY. On that day, the venue was loud and packed with other customers. It was myself and some family members, we ordered many menu items and had a good time. The check was much more within our budget than other Korean venues.

The food was good and we collected 4 coupons, with the promise to recieve a free large french fries with 5 coupons or a free half boneless chicken / chicken sandwich with 10 coupons.

My second visit to a Pelicana location, was this specific one in NJ. It was a completely different feel, likely because of the time we got there. Me and two others arrived about an hour and a half before closing time.

The food was still just as good and the check was equally within our budget. There is one downside, whether it was because of how late it was or this location not providing it... I did not receive coupons. I probably could have asked but with the food coma I had, my mind was not at it's peak performance.

Regardless, the place is still a fan favorite for me.

P.S: We were slightly mind blown by the Spanish speaking cooks. We were like 🤔 🤯

I am not sure if it was a bad day but this place has changed much since it opened. First, the portion decreased dramatically. When we first ordered the boneless chicken, we were surprised by the amount. Thought it was 1.5 whole chicken instead of 1. But today, it was half the amount of what it used to be. Secondly, the sauce never seems to be consistent, even for Lv.1. Today’s sauce had a spicy🔥🔥 kick to it even though it was a “Kindergarten” level. Up to a level where the kids had to give up in the middle. It was also due to the salty chicken that made us stop half way. The base seasoning was so strong that the salty favor just came through the sauce. It was just pure salt taste with the spicy heat at the end. Lv.1 sauce used to be sweeter with very minimal heat. If it was to be tossed in sauce, hope the chicken base season should have been lighter. If I would hunger for Korean chicken, I would search for...
