My mother had a brief friendly exchange & discussion about details of the shop while we were eating our food & the server were making sure we were okay & content with our food & order. First off, the shop has been around for while, they were a Banh Mi shop at first & later added more items to the menu, especially “Ốc” which is snail in Vietnamese. They informed us that they were under new management, as in new owner. They re-decorated interior a bit. The restaurant is known by locals but not that discoverable among the Vietnamese community yet (as many have not spoken or shared). They are a bit understaffed but they are all generally assuring, professional, and friendly. The interior is both comforting, kind of homely, bright, there’s also outdoor dining if you prefer to enjoy the weather. There is some parking.
My family has ordered a few things, we ordered three Ốc dishes. Three different types of snails, two were in the same sauce. First snail dish had crushed peanuts in it, it gave a nice nutty depthness to the dish, the sauce was creamy, savory & sweet, the corn is a nice little addition. The sauce seems to be made with butter, and potentially salted egg yolk. The second snail dish was the same snail dish, different snail but same sauce, however there is more water content so it’s soupy like, tasty! And there are no crushed peanuts. Reminds me of a creamy curry in a way. Third snail dish was in a coconut cream sauce, savory, creamy & semi sweet. The snail’s end of the shell were snipped so it’s easier to syphon the snail out of the entrance, or you can pry it out with a thick toothpick as provided.
Pho Hải Sản is odd, It was served with beef broth but with seafood ingredients, as it’s seafood Pho but it’s like a mix.
They also serve “Balut”, fertilized duck egg, except they do it with fertilized chicken egg instead. They’re small & bite size, sautéed & served in a small bowl with sauce. It’s delicious.
Lastly, is Bò Tái Chanh (Vietnamese raw beef carpaccio). My mother was very critical about this. It was served in a unique way, which is not traditional whatsoever. I’d like to inform correctly that Bo Tai Chanh is broken down into three translated word: Bò - Beef, Tái - Raw, Chanh - Lime/Citrus, traditionally, the thinly sliced raw beef is massaged & mixed with a lot of lime juice. The acidity breaks down the enzymes, and it practically becomes cooked. It is then plated, dressed with very thinly sliced white onion, culantro (not cilantro) (Ngò Gai)(google translate is wrong if it says Coriander). Crushed peanuts. Then drizzled in a circular motion of siracha, then served on the side of uncooked fish sauce. (Cooked fish sauce is less potent than uncooked, it is normally served with rice & rice noodle dishes that have no soup, and certain appetizers). However…my mom did not like it at all, she was puzzled & absolutely confused on how they prepared it & serves it. The slices of beef with thick, the beef slices were also plain raw; they were not mixed with any citrus or lime at all, the onions were like matchsticks (crunchy), they used the wrong herb (crucial), no siracha drizzle & no dish sauce. (Since they drowned the dish in their own type of sauce). My mom deemed the dish as not recommended, pretty hefty in price for the serving amount as well. We had on & off brief discussions with the servers, and she wanted to share some constructive feedback to share with the chef.
I am not a fan of the large drink menu, a lot of them just don’t sound appatizing, or refreshing. I usually seek out the holy trilogy: Sinh tố sầu riêng (Durian Smoothie) , Nước rau má (Pennywort drink in a can), and Nước mía (sugarcane drink). But two out of the three, were not available.
Overall, the restaurant serves quality food, and we will be coming back to try their Banh Mi. However, prices of certain dishes, are exponentially very high for its questionable...
Read moreWent back again and still worth it. Today we outside in the porch area. A small family business located on Old Post Road, near Edison High School. This Vietnamese owned bussiness replaced the former deli bussiness. Not much has changed with the exception of outdoor seating. You can eat indoor or outdoor. The decor is simple and clean with a unisex bathroom. There is a small parking lot for a few cars. The menu is limited but, the items are a very good selection of Vietnamese cuisine. We tried three sandwiches called Banh Mi. The roast pork, grilled chicken and BBQ pork. They were all dressed with basil, jalapeno peppers, lettuce, onions etc. On a toasted baguette. We also had Pho a Vietnamese soup. The combination Beef Pho as well as, the BBQ Pork were winners. The soup is served with thin rice noodles, bamboo sprouts, jalapeno peppers, basil, lime and meat. You can remove those ingredients if you don't like the jalapeno pepper for example but, don't. This soup is a explosion of flavors. They also serve some favorite Vietnamese appetizers, rice and vermicelli dishes. If you want to be introduced to Vietnamese cuisine at a beginner's level with going to a Vietnamese Restaurant this is the place to go. You won't be disappointed. You will enjoy it and keep...
Read moreThis Vietnamese restaurant is a hidden gem that delivers on all fronts—authentic flavors, fresh ingredients, and warm hospitality.
The menu offers a wide range of dishes, from traditional pho to banh mi, spring rolls, and flavorful rice plates. The pho is a standout: the broth is perfectly balanced, full of rich, comforting flavors that feel like they’ve been crafted with love and care. The fresh herbs, lime, and bean sprouts on the side allow you to customize it to your liking.
I also tried the banh mi, and it was incredible—the bread was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, filled with a savory combination of meat, pickled vegetables, and fresh cilantro. Their spring rolls were light and fresh, with a peanut dipping sauce that tied everything together beautifully.
Btw dont forget to try their coffee. Order togo and sip it for road to your destination.
The ambiance is cozy and inviting, with just the right mix of modern and traditional Vietnamese decor. The staff was attentive and friendly, happy to explain the dishes and make recommendations.
This is the kind of place that makes you want to come back again and again, whether for a casual meal or to introduce friends to authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Highly...
