Kam Man Food — Local services in Edison

This place is great for you if you like asian foods. They have a great selection of fish and seafood, asian fruits & vegatables, packaged take home chinese products, cookware, a small restaurant (little taipei), lottery, chinese medicine, a DVD sales place, a verizon office and a small bakery where they cook all kinds of pasteries. you know the cakes with roast beef in the center? my wife loves that crap, i think its terrible. Or a danish with a hotdog in it, or a doughnut with raw corn filling? They do have these small vietnamese style hoagies for only 1.25 or 1.50 that are excellent, and a fish sandwich that is to die for, the cilantro does it all! its also a great place to get moon cakes when its that time of year.

plus most of the staff is multi-lingual, so you can find anyone in there who speaks any language to help you. korean, chinese, indonesian, english, spanish. they have several tanks of live fish, octopus, squid, scallops, clams, lobster and other types of fish, there is a large selection on ice also. they have lots of cookware, ovens, pans, pots, brooms, household items like that.

Located just of Route 1 on Old Post road in Edison, NJ, kind of behind two mini-malls, you have to take the Jug handle if you're coming from Route 1 north. Next to Comfort Inn and Penang...

I used to go to the Kam Man in Chinatown a few times a year as a kid/teenager when my parents would take me there. I remember it being pretty pricey - more so than Brooklyn Chinese supermarkets. Understandably so, because of its prime Chinatown location.

Fast forward many years til I visited this Edison location one late Saturday afternoon at around 3:30. It wasn’t crowded at all, I guess because there are many Asian supermarket options in Edison. This location is much bigger and cleaner, for obvious reasons. They have a bakery (and they make fresh soy milk! Something I’ve had trouble finding ever since moving to NJ, Chinese BBQ, and a great selection of dried goods and produce (including some produce I had never even seen or heard of before). The meat/seafood section looks a bit questionable but my FIL (a former chef) likes to buy whole chicken here. Prices overall are on par or maybe slightly cheaper than your local HMart. I feel that 99 Ranch has a better variety of sauces, which is mainly what I was shopping for that day.

While I don’t think Kam Man will be my go to, it’s still a good option for the area, if you don’t have to go out of your way...

Disappointed Regular Customer

My family and I have been shopping here for decades since we moved to the area, but the store has really gone downhill in recent years. Prices have become outrageous—and not because of tariffs. It feels like they’re just taking advantage of the lack of nearby alternatives.

A serious warning about expired goods: Be extra cautious with canned goods and clearance items. I’ve found many that were either already expired or just days away from it. Some breads even had visible mold. One time, I bought a birthday cake and found live worms inside. Absolutely disgusting.

There are still a few kind staff members—shout-out to the older cashiers who’ve always been helpful. But that’s about where the good ends. The guy at the roast meat station is extremely rude, and he butchers the meats like he’s doing it blindfolded. It’s sloppy and careless. I get that they probably don’t pay him well, but still—there should be some standard of quality and respect.

Bottom line: the only reason people still shop here is because there aren’t many other options. The store knows it, and it shows in how they treat customers and...
