This place is close to me and I really enjoy the Sichuan food here. It is much less Americanized than typical Chinese takeout- you can really taste the Sichuan peppercorns and Doubanjiang and other Chinese ingredients they use here. So far I have tried: Cumin Lamb, Three Pepper Chicken, Mapo Tofu, and Fish Filet in Hot Oil. They were all excellent, the meat was tender and generous, I loved the spiciness, and I especially loved the flavor in the chicken and fish dishes. Each dish is 2 servings for me.
Both times I’ve gotten food here, I called and ordered for pick-up. The food was made promptly and the man working at the counter was friendly, so I’m happy with the service too.
I took a picture of the Chinese menu. I can neither speak nor read Chinese, so I translated it at home. Next time I think I will point to the ones I want on that menu so I can try some more dishes not listed on the English menu.
The only reasons why I am not giving 5 stars are these: the dishes are a bit expensive compared to other Sichuan Chinese places. If the prices were more affordable, I would no doubt come all the time. Because they’re not, this is a place I go every once in a while. Additionally, I wish I got more rice with my meals- I always have to make another batch at home to finish...
Read moreDragon Palace is an amazing Szechuan restaurant... if you can speak and read Chinese.
The food is top notch Szechuan variety of Chinese food. So be prepared for some really spicy dishes. And by spicy, I mean your mouth might get numb. If you can stand the spice, the food is delicious. And there's several non-spicy options.
But be warned, like many authentic Chinese restaurants, they have two separate menus: one written in Chinese and one written in English. The Chinese menu is where much of the best dishes are hidden so to fully experience Dragon Palace, you really need to read and speak Chinese (or go with someone who can).
The restaurant is large and I've never had to wait to be seated. Additionally, they have complimentary food that you can get while you wait for your meal to arrive. There typically are appetizers of scallion pancakes and soup. There is also desserts of taro/tapioca sweet soup and congee with sugar.
Dragon Palace is one of my favorite places in the area. It has great food and you can always get a table (my family has often gone there on holidays when other places had too long of a wait). But I've never tried to have a meal using solely the English menu, so I'd be cautious if you do not read Chinese or have someone who does...
Read moreI’ve been a loyal customer of Dragon Palace for a while now, ordering catering for almost every family event. This time was beyond frustrating. I ordered 4 party trays (over $200) by phone, the same way I always do, but the trays that arrived were less than HALF the usual size. When I called, I was transferred around for 15+ minutes only to be told they had “changed portions and pricing” without updating the website or mentioning it on the phone. Basically, I was charged for mediums but given smalls, shorting me about $50 worth of food. Instead of fixing their mistake, the manager said he couldn’t because “the owner would get upset” since it happened with another customer recently. The only “solution” offered was for me to pay another $45–$80 per tray to correct their error. After going back and forth, I finally got two small trays, but only after sending someone out to pick them up while my guests were already at my house.
In the end, I spent over $200 for tiny trays and a stressful, embarrassing experience. The food is good, but the dishonesty, lack of transparency, and refusal to take responsibility left me beyond...
