We walked into the restaurant and it was lovely and we fell in love with aesthetics and sadly that is what you are paying for. We sat for over ten minutes and my fiancé and I debated on walking out, i wanted to leave she wanted to say something and before we could come to conclusion some one came to out table. After that the server was great Mario was wonderful. We ordered and app QUESO FUNDIDO. It looked good but the execution was poorly done. We thought it looked greasy, given that its a cheese dish this is kind of expected. When we ate into it it was really watery and not at all greasy. we were not sure if that was a positive or negative, we attached picture as proof. Not sure why it was watery maybe from the tomatoes or onions but due to the water the dish had no flavor. All the Flavor sat in the water that is now at bottom of the dish. We ordered beef empanadas and Pull Pork burrito. The burrito was listed at 17$ which is very ambitious of any restaurant but i really wanted to try it and give this place a fair chance. I thought maybe the quality of the burrito would be amazing or the size for 17 dollars. I was wrong. the burrito was packed no more than a chipotle burrito. Pulled pork was cooked well but bland and had no seasoning and the rice was over cooked. for 17$ I expected the best burrito when burritos run typically $8-12. My wife Empanadas were terrible. The meat tasted as thought it was boiled or cooked in water. I don't know if they just cook the ground beef in a drum, in which the juice will drip down to the bottom of the drum/pot and we just got served the bottom of the pot beef sitting in grease. It was mushy, tasted as though it was cooked in water. The server was nice enough to ask if it there was an issue with it and the manager was kind enough to offer alternative solutions and took it of our bill but other than that this would be a one star review. When you charge a certain price for food, you raise the expectations. Mexican food is typically in expensive because the ingredients are in expensive. Considering the price i was hoping to love everything and i wish i went to Chipotle, Margaritas or Jose Tejas , where the price is more reasonable for the...
Read moreThe food was alright and the service was lackluster. I got the standard burrito with chicken and it was fine but there just wasn't anything special or unique about it. I know a lot of other Mexican restaurants that will give me the same quality burrito or a better one for almost half the price. Charging for chips and salsa is a bit absurd. The alcoholic drinks were pretty good, and I enjoyed the frozen margarita flight.
The server I had was nice, but her and all of the support staff never took any of our dirty plates away. When our entrees came out the entire staff danced around all of the empty/dirty dishes and tried to squeeze our Entree plates on the table without touching any of the dirty plates at all. The server also never asked us how our food was or checked up on us. I was a part of a large table of 10 so I understand being intimidated by a crowd, but it just felt like the server knew she was guaranteed a 20% tip so she did the minimal effort.
I myself have been a server at many restaurants, and I know that I am always looking out for my customers by taking away any unnecessary/dirty plates or silverware that are crowding the table in order to prevent them from being crowded and give them the best experience possible. Since I take my job very seriously when I'm serving and always do my best, I get insulted when I see a server do the bare minimum, and I can easily sense when a server isn't trying their best since I know what it's like.
I even used to work at Tommy's in Freehold when it opened, and when I was there, the managers were perfectionists that would yell at us for the simplest mistakes and would be all over us if a job wasn't done perfectly. I wish Tios followed suit with how hard the management and the employees worked in the early days of Tommy's, but it's sad to see that that is not the case. I guess once success is achieved people quickly forget how they earned that success and they lose their high quality performance as a result which is very sad to see.
Considering how sub par my experience was as a whole, I feel that giving Tio's 3 stars was generous and I was very close to only...
Read moreI visited Tios today with my boyfriend, and unfortunately had one of the most disappointing and unprofessional dining experiences I’ve ever encountered. My boyfriend accidentally left his ID at home. We attempted to provide a photo of it, which we fully understood could not be accepted. However, from that moment forward, the server’s demeanor turned hostile. I presented my valid ID and ordered a drink, which took nearly 30 minutes to arrive. When I later requested a margarita flight, the waitress loudly and obnoxiously announced, “Yeah, I can serve you once you fully consume your drink.” This was shocking. I had only just received my first alcoholic beverage of the evening. Her assumption that I intended to overconsume was baseless, unprofessional, and frankly insulting. I calmly asked who had made up that rule, as I know from my own experience in the food and beverage industry that the actual guideline is against overconsumption—not ordering two drinks at once. Instead of handling the situation with professionalism, the server raised her voice, turned her back on me, and threatened to involve a manager. When the manager arrived, rather than de-escalating, she too spoke to me in a raised voice. At this point it became painfully clear: what should have been a simple, respectful interaction turned into a hostile and discriminatory experience. As someone who has worked in restaurants myself, I know the standard of service and respect that should be expected. What I encountered at Tios was the opposite. The behavior was dismissive, unprofessional, and carried undertones that made me feel singled out. It is deeply disappointing to see a restaurant I’ve supported for so long demonstrate such poor hospitality, especially when its theme centers on a culture that does not appear to be authentically represented by its leadership. I left feeling disrespected, unwelcome, and disgusted by the lack of integrity in how this was handled. Customers...
