I am not from The NYC area. I am from Washington DC. I expected this area to provide a higher experience of fun and entertainment as it populated with higher density of people and wealth.
Top golf was amazingly fun. If you are looking for some creative way to play golf, this is it. The facility provides a fun way to engage with your friends and family in a competitive way. People, like myself, who never golfed and needs multiple swings at the ball still a great time, and the food provided was actually great bar food. I love me some wings and they are better than most.
However, the service was absolutely terrible. In a night where I was trying to celebrate one my best friends birthday, the service was unacceptable. As I mentioned before, I am not from the NYC area and drove 5 hours to get here.
When we arrived, the place was packed. Usually a sign that it would be a great time. However, as we weren’t able to make reservations, we needed to wait till a table was open. The wait time was said to be 2.5 hours. We arrived 5:55pm.
From the idea of time invested, we figured since I traveled 5 hours to get here, (and my friends all came from NYC, paying abundant tolls, and a 2 hour drive,) we decided to wait it out. From there, we went downstairs to the game room.
In the game room, there was billiards, fusbal, table shuffleboard, and two 360 Kinect. I went over to the The billiards tables had missing balls, and replaced with duplicates. We asked one of the employees, but was met with confusion and awe and no fix. But like and good problem solver, we designated one of the duplicates as another ball, and try to enjoy waiting. After about two hours we got bored of pool, and wanted to try the Kinect as we saw another group of family/friends having fun on one. We asked the employee to help us start/set it up, and was met with more confusion and apologies on how he/she doesn’t know how to. We asked the group already playing how did they start it up. They said that the employee helped them and we should ask them. At this point I was tired from waiting.
3 hours in waiting we went up to check to make sure they didn’t forget us. Asked around, making sure we were next in the queue. They mentioned that I was difficult to find two open bays, and said if we were okay with just one bay. Consulting with the group, we were going to settle with one bay as we have been waiting for a long time, and some of the parents/grandparents would sit out.
By the 3.5 hours waiting mark, I was ready to leave. Making it abundantly clear that giving us an estimate of 2.5 hours, and waiting an extra hour was pushing the limit. Headed to the help desk again, I was met with some attitude and stank on why we were was bothering them every 10 minutes on finding us bays.
Exhausted, annoyed, and disoriented from trying to entertain ourselves while watching dozens of people play, while we were forgotten about, I was ready to accept that we would never play top golf.
We did not play a game until 10pm. We were waiting 4 hours. An extra 1.5 hours than estimated. I understand going over the estimated time, as you know, it’s just an estimation, but 1.5 hours is to much.
When we got to our bays, lucky enough we were able to get two, instead of settling for the one, we thought the night was going to turn out well. When there, as we were all signing in and ready to play, the employee spoke like an auctioneer. Unclear, super fast, and rushed the instructions. Ultimately rushing our group to play, starting the 1 hour timer before I even knew the rules and goal of top golf. Rushing us, as if we weren’t just waiting 4 hours to play. Luckily my friend took a breather and help explained how the scoring works, how the ball dispenser works, and how to work the scoreboard.
The hour slot was great. I had fun, and loved swinging and missing. It felt great to hit the ball so deep and score points when I actually was able to hit the ball.
The horrendous service is the only thing I will remember. Not the short and sweet game...
Read moreFirst time ever at top golf celebrating my birthday. I asked the server about extending time from the start of our reservation. She said after 15 minutes remaining the screen would prompt us to extend the bays. Once we hit around 10 min. remaining the server said the reservation is up, so I asked about extending the reservation time since the screen never asked us as I was told it was from the beginning of our reservation. I was informed that there was someone at the bays after us so we could not be extended at those particular bays. I requested to move to a different bay that is not reserved and perhaps a manager can overlook the schedule and try to accommodate us while already in the facility. Laisha Wright the “manager” came to speak with me and abruptly said we need to leave and if we wish to stay that we would need to go downstairs and add us to the wait list as if we were a new walk-in with a 4hour wait. Meanwhile the facility closes in 4 hours. When speaking with Laisha, she falsely accused me of speaking to her in a rude manner and said at this point I was no longer welcome at the facility. All of my guests heard the conversation and was in shock that she said such a thing since she began the conversation in a combative manner and prompted security to be on standby to escort us out of the facility. My guests heard everything and agreed that I was trying to understand why we could not extend the time and by no way was rude or disrespectful to Laisha. I’m a new guest and she failed to explain why we could not be accommodated elsewhere. She failed to explain that there are other common areas where we can still remain in the facility and continue to experience other aspects of Top Golf AKA more revenue to the company. After confirming that she is the “manager” she called over a different manager who I believe is Nick and explained everything to me as a first time customer at the facility. My tone was the same with him as it was with the other manager and he was shocked she said I was not welcome anymore. Our conversation was great, but the way Laisha Wright spoke with me and accused me of being combative and said I was no longer welcome there will stop me from going out of my way from North Jersey to Top Golf in Edison with a group of individuals who have not been to Top Golf before. It’s a shame to experience this on my first visit, especially on my birthday. I work in the family entertainment business, so I understand there are other reservations, but perhaps she could have explained this to me better and how they operate before trying to escort me out of the facility with security and shocked that I asked if she is the actual manager on duty. She proudly told me her first and last name. I hope management acknowledges this feedback and addresses this experience directly with Laisha Wright. You should also contact me if you wish to earn my business back from...
Read moreMy experience was not great and I am quite disappointed. Upon arrival my husband and I checked in for our bay, as we made a reservation in advance. When we got to our bay, I noticed we were placed in a bay with high top tables and chairs. Since we were with our 4 month old baby, I went back to the desk and asked if we could kindly have a bay with a couch, as we needed to feed the baby and it would be much easier and more comfortable for us to do so on a couch than the high top. The young girl at the front desk was useless and gave me a hard time. She stated there was no where to move us. Meanwhile, I saw a plethora of open bays and while I am sure they had incoming reservations, I don’t personally see why our bay couldn’t be swapped with a vacant one with a couch for the time being. I requested to speak to a manager and waited nearly 10 minutes. No one ever came so I approached someone in a red shirt, asking if they were a manager. They were indeed a manager and after explaining the situation, he was able to do some rearranging to get us into a bay with a couch. After all was said and done, we lost 15-20 minutes of playing time. I requested we receive an additional 15-20 minutes for free due to the mishap. It’s a bit disheartening that I had to ask for this and was not offered this. We proceeded to our new bay on the 3rd floor and a different manager came to our bay and said she spoke to the manager at the front desk and she was there to add a complementary 15 minutes to our bay. We were very appreciative. When it was time to settle up, thankfully I checked the receipt before paying and noticed we were charged $12.50 for the additional 15 minutes of game play that was supposed to be complimentary. I let our server know and after he spoke to the manager, the charge was removed. I am unsure if this was an honest mistake, or if they were trying to pull a fast one on us. This was mine and my husbands first time out on a “date” since we had our son and it was already quite stressful bringing a baby, but then even more stressful when we realized how unaccommodating they were. We drove over an hour to get there and this experience really put a bad taste in our mouth. I also think it is EXTREMELY over priced. I think it’s ridiculous that there is approximately a 1 hour window at the crack of dawn that is affordable and then the price consistently increases throughout the day. We arrived at 10:45 AM on a Wednesday and it cost us $65 for 2 hours of game play. If we would have booked 11:00 AM, it would have cost $72.50. As the day progressed, prices reached as high as $124. INSANITY! I can honestly say, I don’t think we will be back any time soon. This location needs some serious work and...
