Exploring Desi Corners: A Taste of Southern India in Edmond

Driving along Broadway in Edmond, I stumbled upon a new Indian restaurant called Desi Corners, located at 1012 South Broadway, Edmond, OK 73034. The building, a converted Wendy’s, immediately caught my eye, so I decided to check it out. The parking lot was bustling, and inside, I noticed the diners were predominantly Indian—many appeared to be students. That’s always a good sign when searching for authentic cuisine!

Curious to try it myself, I ordered a Southern Indian meal: chicken curry and chapati. While I typically avoid rice for its carb content, I indulged in two chapatis, which were fresh, soft, and a perfect complement to the curry. The flavors were spot on, and I’d rate the experience a solid 7 out of 10—great, but no restaurant can quite match the magic of my mom’s cooking!

What stood out most was the cultural connection I felt while dining. Watching Indian students eat with their hands—a traditional practice in India—brought back memories of my childhood and teenage years there. It reminded me of the deep connection food has to our roots and how it can transport us to another time and place.

Having lived in America for over 40 years, I’ve adapted to many aspects of American dining, but there are moments when I crave the spices and flavors of Indian food. Desi Corners delivered on those cravings while also sparking nostalgia.

The restaurant itself is clean, well-lit, and welcoming. The natural light flooding through the windows created a warm and pleasant dining environment. As a real estate professional, I appreciated the thoughtful conversion of the freestanding building—it’s a cozy and functional space. The staff were friendly, the service was fast, and the overall vibe was lively and inviting.

Desi Corners is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., making it a convenient spot for lunch or dinner. Edmond may not have the same large Indian communities as cities like Dallas, but places like Desi Corners help bring a taste of India to the area.

Whether you’re craving flavorful Southern Indian dishes or simply looking to try something new, I highly recommend Desi Corners. It’s more than just a meal—it’s a cultural experience that reconnects you with traditions and memories, all while enjoying delicious food.

Stop by Desi Corners at 1012 South Broadway, Edmond, OK 73034, and let the flavors of India...

I asked for egg bonda. She said they couldn't serve it until 4 (20 minutes from then). I asked to wait 20 minutes for it; she then tells me they don't have egg bonda! I asked for pepper rasam, they didn't have any. I asked for just a small soup with lentils. They didn't have that. I asked if she could ask the kitchen what small side they could make with lentils in it. She said no. Then she finally offers to bring me a small bowl of lentil sambar. I don't know why they couldn't make egg bonda when they could make egg podimas. I did end up getting shrimp gongura, but when she asked if I wanted mild, medium, or spicy, and I asked for mild, she couldn't DO mild, because she said it only comes spicy. It's just ABSURD that there was an obstacle for everything I asked for. I mean, the food was fantastic! The experience was just extremely frustrating.

I also am not a fan of being served bottle water instead of getting an environmentally friendly glass of water. And it's counterproductive to get both a cloth napkin (which I approve of) AND paper napkins, which is redundant and wasteful. The first black napkin provided, instead of being clean, had dried curry on it. And it was a little annoying the staff started banging on my seat because they were changing the cushions on the seat at the table behind me.

My first time to this restaurant, last year, they were offering a buffet which was not very good, though. But I'll give it some slack because buffets are notoriously worse than ordering fresh. And when I was delivering food from here through GrubHub, I pulled up behind a car at the drivethru and waited and waited... and waited. I started pulling around the car, only to see that it was just some employee's car parked in the drivetrhu blocking the sign saying the driverhru wasn't available. There were plenty of parking spaces, they didn't need to park there.

If they improve on the experience at this restaurant, like, DRASTICALLY improve it, I could give this a much higher rating. Besides from the actually good food, the experience was...

As a self proclaimed food connoisseur it has always been a matter of duty to properly review a restaurant. This particular restaurant really disappointed me. You also have to know that finding delicious Indian restaurants had been an adult long project for me. Let's begin with Desi Corner.

We were on our way to enjoy some time with a great family friend's home. With all the excitement available i called to place my order. Our order was a half tray of mutton biryani ( for the record the menu stated that they had mutton. What they served was goat). We also ordered a half tray of chicken 65. The speed at which they had the food ready was slightly concerning to me. When I opened and tasted the food, my concerns became more and more legitimate. Let's start with the biryani. This biryani was the epitome of lazy cooking. The rice is cooked separately and pre cooked pieces of goat is added after the fact. The saddest part is that they label this dum biryani. For those of you that don't know dum biryani is a flavorful and aromatic Indian dish cooked using the "dum" technique of slow-cooking in a sealed pot. This method involves layering partially cooked rice and marinated meat or vegetables in a heavy-bottomed pot, sealing the lid with dough or foil, and cooking it over a very low heat. The trapped steam cooks the ingredients, allowing their flavors and aromas to infuse the rice and meat, resulting in a rich, tender, and fragrant dish

This was not a "dum" style biryani. I was very disappointedin the texture and age of the goat pieces. If you are going to advertise a "dum" biryani, it would behoove you to actually cook that style.

Next I would like to discuss the chicken 65. The chicken was cooked in bulk way a head of time. Basically chicken is cooked previously and then a pre-made sauce is added and then into the pan they go. This creates a rubbery and not so fresh experience. I know that running a restaurant is a difficult thing but saving time and money shouldn't be the point

Sincere...

Update: just tried the chicken fried rice that I got in place of the biryani and it was very bad, it smelled and tasted like fish. Not even close to fried rice. I really wanted to like it but very upsetting. Paid for something that wasn’t even decent. I still appreciate the lady who offered but please guys don’t try a cuisine that is not your expertise. It’s funny to see that it’s mostly non south Asians who are giving good reviews, they get tricked easily thinking it’s good food cause their diet doesn’t include these foods so when they taste it they praise it a lot. Ordered the boneless special biryani and although there was a hair in the biryani I appreciate the owner /lady worker was nice and offered to provide another dish in place of it. Coming to the taste of the biryani there is loads of garam masala so much that it becomes very spicy even at medium spice level. The chicken and masala was very good which is a plus but it’s the garam masala. I’ve eaten hyderabadi biryani and as long as I’ve tasted hyderabadi biryani there is very less masala but loads of flavor in it. This was the opposite. I think it’s a different because of different areas of Hyderabad/ or Andhra Pradesh make different tasting biryani. I would suggest they should lower spice level in the medium level biryani. I hope they start wearing a hair net. They didn’t have lollipops or chai and both of these things should be there as they are less effort dishes unlike biryani. We arrived around 9 and they close at 10. The dosa was great.

My time at Desi Corner was well spent! The ambience was warm and inviting, and the food was incredibly tasty. However, be warned that the spices are truly out of this world - if you're not used to super spicy food, you might want to ask for mild options! The service was satisfactory, and I loved that I could taste the authentic chilli flavor of "Guntur" in their dishes. Overall, it is a fantastic spot for those who love spicy food and authentic flavors. Point to be noted (Out of all the dishes, idly was not fresh/tasty)! Just a tiny tweak to the spice levels would make it perfect!
