You can't beat this place if you're looking for a place that reminds you of California– which is very hard to do in the state of Oklahoma. It's new, and this park has ambiance! It offers some pretty fast slides when it's not wet outside. And you don't have to worry about pieces of bark getting stuck in your shoes or into your feet if you choose to go barefoot on the rubber mat that envelops the great majority of the park.
Aside from a few troublemakers that decide to get gravel from somewhere and throw it on the rubber mat, most of the time the rubber is spongy soft presenting a safe and enjoyable experience for you and your children. It also offers large shade trees; and, these will remind you of Northern Cal for sure. Also, there are nice benches and recliners so you can just kick back and watch your kids have fun! There is a Ramada where I'm sure they have musical performances at some point. I've never seen it. There is a basketball court that's pretty far from the children's playground and a water fountain. Finally, there is a renovated portion of downtown that surrounds the park ready to offer you a little bit of bougie style pizzas and gelato Etc. If you've got money you'll like it! If you don't got money, you'll like it even still!! Try and you'll see that I'm right.
Ps. No shortage of Target Mom's here, so if thats you, youll fit right in. Seriously, great park. My...
Read moreThis is my favorite park in Edmond. There is usually plenty of other kids for my kiddo to play with but it never seems like there are too many that he has to wait to play on something. They have the new rubber, slightly padded, solid ground covering all over which is perfect for someone learning to ride a scooter. They have plenty of sidewalk for scooter training which I can watch and not have to chase. That brings me to my very favorite part which is a ton of seating in both benches, and Adirondack chairs to comfortably sit while kids play. There's also retaining wall to sit by the grass if they are full. The semi-covered pavilion is great especially when there are live bands playing. The basketball courts are in good shape and the kids like the giant musical instruments too. The only thing I have to complain about is there are any bathrooms if the museum is closed which is any...
Read moreLocated off S Boulevard in between E 4th and E 5th streets, Stephenson Park is the oldest urban city park in Edmond. Originally named South Park, it was created in 1892 just a few years after the Land Run and establishment of the township of Edmond.
In 1934 the park was renamed after City Manger Fred M. Stephenson. It is a small park at 3.4 acres and includes trees, park benches and Rocket ship themed children's playground installed in more recent years that is great for children. There is a fair amount of open grass for pets to enjoy.
There are also a couple of heritage attractions at Stephenson Park including the old early 20th-century Rodkey House, a Victorian residence that was restored and relocated here in 2016. On the east side of the park, you will find the old National Guard Armoury that has housed the Edmond Historical Society, a small museum to Edmond's...
