If I had to use one word to describe McLaren's, it would be: UNDERWHELMING. Two words, you ask? OVER PRICED. A patient of the office I work at brought me a gift card for this place yesterday, so of course I went to check it out. I couldn't find prices at any of the places I checked online, so I wasn't sure what to expect. (Not to worry for all of you planning a visit, I've uploaded a photo.) I pulled in to a packed parking lot which is usually a good sign. The dining area was pretty full, mostly of older ladies chatting while having lunch. There was no line, which was nice. After glancing at the menu, I knew that if I was paying with my own money, I would have turned and walked out, but since I had a gift card, I didn't. I ordered a spinach quiche, which says it comes with a side of fruit salad, and I also ordered a cup of the Wisconsin Cheddar soup. I was told to have a seat and they would call me up when it was ready and I'd pay then. I was surprised at how small the quiche was considering it was two quarters shy of $10. (That's right. $9.50 for a Banquet Pot Pie size quiche.) The soup came the size I expected to see. And it also came with a mint. Once I got to my table, I realized there was no fruit salad so I had to go ask if that was a thing or not. The girl at the front quickly realized she forgot and turned to the mini fridge behind her and handed me a tiny cup of fruit. (See photo for entire meal.) My order came out to almost $14. I kind of feel ripped off to be completely honest. The quiche was soggy. Like it was cooked over the weekend and then popped in the microwave when I ordered it. Tasted like dog breath. You could tell that if it were fresh, the crust would be crispy and flaky, but it was incredibly wet. I couldn't finish it. The soup tasted like an off brand canned soup you'd get at Walmart and I wouldn't be surprised if that's what it was. Sadly, the fruit is the only thing that tasted good and unfortunately that was the smallest portioned thing at my table. As I was dining, I was observing the workers. I noticed a lot of food touching and a lot of no hand washing. There was a lot of hands being wiped on the side of their pants, though, as to "clean" them before touching something else. So beware if you have any type of food allergy. There was a lot of cross contamination going on. One girl stuck her hand in a bucket of soapy, blue water to fish out the rag to wipe down tables, then she returned the rag and went back to making food. The sink was visible and she didn't use it. Needless to say, I have $11 left on my gift card and if I do happen to go back, I'll just be buying cookies.

McLaren's is a staple in Edmond, originally started by two Scottish Sisters who loved food as much as they loved people. Fast forward 20 years and the Turkey Avocado Croissant still tastes the same. The cookies are always a hit and their bars never disappoint. I highly suggest you trying their no-bake, snicker doodle, and Scottish Shortbread cookies. If you like peanuts the Highland bar is my favorite! Expect to spend $10-$15 per person (food, drink and dessert). Most cookies are around $1.00 and bars are typically within the $2.50 range.

With all the rave reviews I decided to stop in and try it out. Had soup and sandwich combo and ended up with broth and a hard croissant. The soup tasted ok but it was very thin with a little bit of chicken that seemed to basically be chopped up compressed mystery meat that would be used to make deli slices and was mostly just a broth. The turkey croissant half was hard as if it either was not stored properly or was old. For the cost I could have went to Chillis or Applebees and had a meal. I was thoroughly not impressed by the quality or the price. Probably the only thing that was decent was the cookie I ended up with on the combo.

I think it's great to try and support local rather than chain stores when I can but in the future I will just head a block west and get more at a better quality for the same price. Friendliness aside I feel the place will likely end up the same way the stained carpet and dieing plants unless they make some changes to how they are doing things.

I also have to mention that if you are a person who appreciates the ability to defend yourself through the best means possible they prominently display no weapon signs on their doors. It's their choice and while concealed means concealed it just wasn't...

We always liked this little sandwich shop until today. I was taken aback by the condescending tone that the staff took when they messed up an order. We came in and ordered two kids meals, my wife’s food, mine, and four drinks. When coming up to pay, the staff had three sandwiches. I asked where the fourth one was, and the lady at the counter told me, “well, we wrote down three, so that’s what we made.” I replied that we still needed the fourth sandwich to complete our order. The staff member went and told the person working the sandwich station about it. The two snarkily exchanged dialogue about whether or not I would pay. I overheard them, and honestly, if your employees are going to act that way within earshot of customers, you should be ashamed of your business. Never once was there an apology for their mistake, and they made me and my family feel rather unwelcome here. I am astounded and will never ever return, and I will blast this place in a negative light from this point forward. Just plain rude, ridiculous, and full of condescension. I hope you don’t think you’re...
