5 star for food, 0 for service. If the food wasn’t good, I’d actually never come here again.
We waited two hours for a bbq table. Why? Because the servers don’t communicate with each other & kept giving away our table. It happened to a group that was waiting way before me as well. They were complaining amongst their group how it happens EVERY TIME they eat here. The servers are lazy, they would rather seat the people waiting by the door (who are usually the ones that just put their name on the list), rather than calling the people who are next on the list that are sitting in their cars. It’s a simple phone call, it’s not that hard to keep track of which groups came first since there’s a list. They’d rather make the quick sale (seat people right away & clean up fast), than seat the correct people. We were never called the first couple of times.
After the initial hour of waiting, we went inside to check and the male server said we’re next and it’ll be about 20m. I see that we were skipped bc on the list, there were groups after us that got sat that also checked the box for grilling. We decide to wait inside by the door to not get skipped again. Low & behold another male server looks at the list, skips our name, looks outside & seats a table that put their name on the list WAY after us. My friend proceeded to tell them that we have been waiting 1.5 hours now and showed them how our name was high on the list. The female server plainly says we’re next. You can guess how frustrated we were since there’s only about 5 grills in that restaurant. No apology from anyone for giving away the table multiple times. She just says “we’ll call you”. She finally does after another 20m (when the dinner rush is dead), but even after we got sat, the female server was rude. My friend and I planned to eat here for weeks, so that’s why we stayed waiting, but I will never wait that long for this restaurant again.
Besides Bogul Bogul this is where I can find some gopchang (intestines). I’d rather just go to Bogul. Honestly debating if the wait & the service was worth the food. The drive is already a lot for me, so if the service stays this way,...
Read moreYesterday was my first time going here. First impression, it is a pretty popular spot, within minutes the place was packed. I came here because a friend recommends their pitcher special, the half and half wings + pitcher of beer and large fries. That itself sounds very good.
Place: Small and poor circulation. Since this is a BBQ place, they have the grill in the center of the table if you were planning on eating barbecued food. If not, there are tables without the center grill. The vents are not very effective because the place is very smoky. I recommend wearing a clothes that you are not gonna use again that night, because after you eat there, you will smell like smoke and you would want to get a shower immediately. Prices are also pretty reasonable.
Food: It is not like a conventional Korean restaurant in which when you order food, you will get those side dishes "ban-chan. " The food is as is. I only ordered a few things since it was a group of three. We ordered the pitcher special, which would normally comes with a pitcher of beer (hite) half and half chicken wings, and fries. That night they ran out of rice and they replaced the fries with fried dumplings. They also ran out of the pitcher of beer and give us 2 bottle of Hite instead. We also ordered their seafood soon do boo. The dumplings and the chicken wings are pretty good. The soon do boo are just plain, lacks flavor and kick, will prolly not order it again.
Overall, I think it was good experience and decent food. Due to lack of ventilation and hassle of changing clothes after the visit, I would prolly go somewhere else to get my fix of Korean...
Read moreWow! This restaurant is a great find. I've not had Korean food before and this was a perfect first experience. I ordered hot stone Bibimbop, a beautiful and tasty rice dish served in a very hot stone bowl. It had rice underneath tender beef pieces, thinly sliced carrots, a dark green leafy vegetable cut in small pieces, and bean sprouts with an egg yolk in the middle. As you stir and stir to mix the ingredients, the egg cooks. You add spicy sauce to your taste. Before the Bibimbop, you get five different appetizer condiments to nibble on, kimchi, pickled radish, sauteed bean sprouts, potatoes in soy sauce, and fish cake in sauce. They also serve egg soup with this meal. It is wonderful. It arrives to the table boiling and bubbling; when finished boiling there is an approximately one and a half inch layer of fluffy, delicately flavored eggs with green onions mixed in, with some light broth underneath. I've never had anything like it. This dish alone is worth the trip. I had a bottle of grapefruit soju, a Korean alcoholic beverage which I've never tasted before. The best thing about my visit was the waiter/manager, Jay. He was kind and friendly; he took time to answer my ignorant questions and even mixed my rice dish for me so I'd know what to do next time. He described all the unknown food items to me and never made me feel uncomfortable about my lack of knowledge and experience. He is truly a gem. I cannot say enough positive about Gilson Restaurant and highly recommend it to anyone wanting a different and enjoyable...
