Update: I have still not received that giftcard Carmen promised. This place will never see me again. What a disservice to an iconic restaurant.
This is not a review I ever thought I'd be writing about Patty's. Patty's has been a cherished spot for years for my family. It's been a tradition for us to come 3 times over 3 weeks every year for breakfast to celebrate our very close birthdays. It's just been our thing. We love the food. Always sooo good. We've watched them go from a small space to an extended space. The little nuances and changes haven't been lost on us. My kids have grown up going to Patty's. We started this year off no different. We came in as a family of 5 and placed our order. All was great, they were getting busy. Our food arrived 40 minutes after we placed our order, no biggie. There were 5 of us and it picked up. We were having fun talking over our coffee, enjoying the moment. As soon as our plates hit the table, it was clearly evident 4 of us had cold food and one of us had a steaming plate. The scrambled eggs had gone a darker yellow on top. It looked all off. I immediately stuck my finger in my biscuits and gravy, and it was cold. My husband checked his chicken fried steak, cold. My mom checked her potatoes, cold. There was no doubt our food had been sitting, and for quite a long time. I mean it was cold. My son's plate was steaming and looked so good. The waitress hadn't left our table yet, and I said hey wait a minute our food is cold. I pointed to my son's steaming plate and she nodded her head. She could see. My toddlers pancake had been sitting so long it was rubbery, like a microwaved pancake. We were horrified. She said what do you want me to do. I didn't know how to answer that. I mean what is the normal thing an establishment would do in that situation? All I could think of to say is well I don't want to wait another 40 minutes. She said okay well what do you want then. I was taken a back by such a lack of apology, concern of the situation and effort. She agreed the food was cold and apparently agreed we'd have to wait another 40 minutes for them to remake it? Absolutely zero effort of any sort. I said okay, I'm not paying for this. She said well then I'm taking your plates away. My mom was starving, she wanted to keep hers she said to atleast eat the bacon and toast. My toddler was hungry too and wanted that pancake. And of course my 20 year old had the fresh hot plate so enjoyed his. My husband whose birthday it was and myself gave our plates back. There was no way we were eating that cold gravy, potatoes and old eggs. After that we were completely ignored. No coffee refills. No coming by. Nothing. They literally abandoned our table, walking by to other tables without a glance. It was beyond unacceptable and made us uncomfortable. When my kids and mom were done, we paid and before we left I asked our waitress for her name and to speak to the manager. I was told the manager was away and would be back in a few days. And come to find out our waitress was put in charge. Wow. They were completely untrained in Customer Service. Before leaving this review I spoke with the manager a few days later. After so many years of great times I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. The manager seemed apologetic. She knew about this experience we had. They had called her that day. She wanted us to give them another shot. She offered to send a giftcard so I can bring my husband back to make it right. It's been over a month, no giftcard. For the first time in years we celebrated the next birthdays elsewhere. This horrible experience still shocks me. It was the worst Customer experience I have ever had. I can't believe even after such a terrible experience I gave them the benefit of the doubt. We will...
Read moreThis restaurant opened up this month in the new building on the corner near WinCo. This restaurant does not deliver the company brand experience not do they deliver what the space seems to offer - fast food. We seated ourselves and it was more than 5 minutes before anyone recognized us with any sort of greeting. The wait person was disorganized making several trips to deliver water and coffee. The table was not fully supplied with eating utensils until after the food was delivered and it was requested. I ordered the swedish pancake combo with poached eggs. I always order poached eggs when trying a new place for breakfast; a good cook knows how to poach eggs and this cook knew how to cook them properly. I did not care for the swedish pancakes but that is because I just don't like swedish pancakes, I guess. While sitting there I observed a customer come in and state that they had 6 people in their party. The bus person asked for "one quick moment" and proceed to finish dressing a table in the corner with 4 sets of utensils and napkins. He did this in spite of the tables nearest the guest being covered with dirty dishes from the previous guests. That group of customers turned around and left. On surveying the room I noticed that all the open tables - 7 of them - still had dirty dishes on them. I began to notice that the wait staff were collecting dirty dishes from tables, and taking orders, and delivering plates of food to the tables. The bus person was set preparing a cute cup of hot chocolate for a young person seated in the corner table near the register. The kitchen is in full view of every seat in the space. I saw the people in the kitchen cooking and, yet, I saw wait staff assembling plates for delivery to customers. With the exception of the cooks, everybody was doing a little of everything but nobody was doing all of anything. Additionally, none of the staff smiled at any point of service and were terse when communicating with me. They seemed stressed. Got up to the register to pay and, while the payment part was pretty quick with their double sided payment kiosk, there was a line of people queued up that blocked wait staff from passing with food. I visited the restroom before leaving. It was uni-sex and spacious enough for a handicapped person with a chair to use. However, the floor was sticky and there were brown drips in the some and on the door. This business needs a...
Read moreI dropped by here for breakfast to wait out some local car maintenance.
Their menu’s front page boasted a long list of egg/breakfast related awards. Thick menu, all possible variations of eggs, including butcher chorizo, which was impressive.
Ordered the House Scrambled Eggs and camomile tea. Should be safe, right? Unfortunately, no.
They gave me Earl Grey instead, and I had to correct them.
To be fair to the waitstaff, there was only one person, and including my table, they needed to oversee 7 tables scattered across the restaurant.
I saw on my phone’s signal that a wifi network titled “Patty’s Eggnest Guest” was available, so I asked the waitstaff the password, and they responded “I don’t have it”.
???
I looked around the restaurant walls, to confirm that I wasn’t an idiot who had somehow missed the password somewhere and I had accidentally pissed off the one lone waitstaff. But no, the wifi password was nowhere. Just a bunch of cluttered decor about seating numbers. I pulled the menu again to double-check if I had missed a password there. Nothing.
As for House Scrambled Eggs, the diced onions inside were still crunchy. They and the sliced mushrooms could have been sautéed longer. However they overcooked the eggs. From the photo, one can see that the eggs has been sitting long enough in the pan to take its shape. After the dramatic warning on the menu about the dangers of undercooked eggs, and they don’t even grant me that option anyway.
I couldn’t finish the eggs from stomach discomfort. Ended up calling an Uber to go home to lie down, and then calling another Uber to go back to pick up my car from maintenance. I’m not sure why — perhaps it was a reaction to the undercooked onions, but silver lining, at least it’s not salmonella!
I suspect this might be a case of leadership/management resting on their laurels, or not providing support/headcount for both the front and back. Or perhaps the people who set the conditions for all of those awards, are now long gone.
I should have gone to...
