First off, food is GREAT ---- IF you don't mind shoddy and suspect customer service. Our waitress took our drink order (no alcohol btw), brings us our drinks, then proceeds to grab a plate and sit near us to eat HER dinner. We're left wondering who's our waiter/waitress now. Finally he shows up and proceeds to take our order. We get queso fundido with mushrooms... not sure if it was intended to NOT include the mushrooms in the queso, but our new waiter brought us the mushrooms in a seperate plate. No refill on drinks or tostadas (btw, salsa is actually good and spicy). Then we see our new waiter sits down and ALSO eat his dinner at a table whilst we're waiting for refills and other people asking for service. Then our food arrives...I got gorditas and my mother got a caldo. I thought to myself, no wonder it's only $7.50, I got two. Five minutes later, my third gordita shows up. How you gonna present 2/3 of a dinner.... Finally my mom's caldo arrives only to be at room temperature. I tasted it, it was really good but it was at room temperature. My gorditas were ON POINT. If the service was HALF WAY decent, I'd easily recommend this and give 3 stars, but this restaurant lacks a staff with experience and common...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWith all the positive post, Iām real confused, because I donāt understand why. It was my first time here, because I was told they had outstanding tamales, but if they think these tamales are outstanding, I hate to eat tamales they think are worse. I found these tamales nowhere in the category of outstanding, they were way below average, granted they are loaded with meat and are large, but completely miss the mark on taste, flavor, and Texture Both the meat in the rojo and the chicken with Chile verde is dry, the meat is shredded to a point it looks like a pile of hair instead of meat. The maza is flaky and falls apart and crumbles, and bland. Itās Christmas Eve and the place was packed with people, I can only assume people are lining up only because they donāt want to cook or make tamales at home, it canāt possibly be because all these people think these tamales are that great. Sorry, but Lupitaās and Gussieās tamales runs circles around these tamales. I wanted to try their queso with Rojas but they were out, I hope theyāre better than the rojo and chicken, but I wouldnāt be back...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA wonderful little place tucked into the back side of a strip mall on Trowbridge. The inside really has no atmosphere, just generic small restaurant vibes. The service has always been exemplary, fast and friendly. They have a fair selection of border favorites, I've sampled just about everything from the burritos to the tamales at one time or another. The food is generally excellent, the only issue I've ever had is oddly enough, with the tamales. About 20% of the time, the masa has a weird grainy texture because it's too dry. That by itself isn't a big problem, but when they puree the filling (instead of just shredding), particularly on the green chile chicken, it ends up having an odd mouth feel that detracts from the flavor. Other than the masa issue, the red chillie pork and the green chillie cheese are fantastic. Since I live nearby, I'm there every couple of weeks and the pros well outweigh the cons to...
